Tom Brady’s Reassessment After 22 Seasons– It’s to Tom Brady’s Credit that he Reevaluated and reassessed his Retirement and made Adjustments
What we all could learn from Tom Brady’s reassessing of his return to the NFL™ that we all can applied to our own life in retirement planning. It is never to early to start planning for retirement; and it is more than just financial planning, it is just as much health and fitness planning, as well. There are no line you can get into to purchase health and fitness, you can only invest in your health and fitness.
Tom Brady took some needed time off and assessed his life after football and what his next step was going to be after his outstanding NFL career. In William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet there is a famous line that goes this way- To thine own self be true, or in other words, don’t do something that would compromise your true nature of who you are.
Tom Brady felt that he was cutting his career short on what he could still bring to the game at a high level even after 22 seasons in the NFL. He had a difficult time thinking of himself as a spectator watching the game from the sidelines. That is a very difficult adjustment to make in one’s career, like pro football, to what I would consider a sudden stop of momentum in one’s life.
High performers like professional athletes find it very difficult to just stop and change course in life, because there is no longer a challenge. Professions that include a lot of adrenaline moments, these people feel a void in their lives from what they are accustom to. Tom Brady is a perfectionist and a great tactician of the game of football. He has an unbelievable fitness regimen that has kept him at the tip top shape of his career.
Tom has to weigh all the hazards of returning to football in the pursuit of fulfilling a purpose in his life. Tom is a valuable resource in football as a player and future position coach and later as a head coach that could fulfill his purpose in the coming years. As a position coach, or later as a head coach, he could utilize his mastery of the game as Quarterback that can benefit other players coming into the NFL. That last game in the playoffs, Tom was even getting tight ends into position. Tom has a great eye for the entire field.
As far as developmental skills in training and gameday preparation, there isn’t a better person to help others to hone their skills at any level and help develop their confidence. Tom Brady without question could be a great player/position coach on the field and from the sidelines in the coming years.
The Next Stage in Life
Tom Brady is at a point in his life that we all arrive at, even if Tom does play for a couple of more years, he like all of us, we are going to have to give some consideration to the next step. Tom, like all of us, will have to think about life after football, or in our situation life after our careers. Years before any of us reach this time, we need to give just as much consideration to how we are going to spend our retirement years as how we investing in our 401(k)’s, IRA’s, and pension plans now before we get there.
Regardless of how long off you think your retirement is, it will arrive sooner than you think. We need to prepare for life after retirement and not just from the monetary approach; but from a health and fitness stand point, as well. We need to think about maintaining our health from a mental, physical, and emotional well being now and after retiring. Think about your health as your fitness 401(k) plan.
Just as much consideration must be invested in how to re-channel our professional experiences and our skills we developed to take us through our retirement years beyond just recreational activities. I took welding classes from a VoTech college to develop new skills. A great avenue for determining skills you would like to develop is to make your current or future hobbies and passions into your new profession. There isn’t anything that is more rewarding in life than enjoying what you’re doing on your own terms, working on your own schedule, pace and with your own hands.
Take stock in a famous quote by Mark Twain about finding something that you love doing –Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life. This is essentially retirement on your on terms!
Invested in A 401(k) plan for your Passion
The last five years that I worked in transmission lines, like I mentioned, I took welding classes from a local VoTech school and picked up my carpentry work and catering business again, along with fitness, golf, and writing about sports. These are all skills that I picked up along my life leading up to retiring.
If there was one best piece of advice that I used and could give others in the middle of their young careers now, it is to broaden your interest in hobbies and take your health and fitness seriously and prominent part of your lifestyle. One of the best home improvements that you can do to your home, is to set up a Home Gym and pick up a sport and take a VoTech class before you reach retirement. Believe me, these will allow you to have a full and enjoyable lifestyle even after your current career. Anything that you do with your hands and remain physically active will enhance your life after retirement.
Before I retired in June of 2015, I started laying out my next career strategy, and that was exactly how I approach my retirement as a strategy with all seriousness planning that I gave my financial retirement planning. I turned my passion for catering, fitness, sports, and sports apparel into my business model that keeps me challenged and provides me with an active pace of life. I even model my line of apparel at age 64. Remember- Rest is Rust in life and the more rust gathers in your life the less active you become.
So I started my company, THE QATSPY®, an online fitness and golf training and sportswear business. I was able to develop a diet, fitness, golf training program, along with sportswear that includes the US WINGS®, Authentic Leather Flight Jackets that we supply to the U.S. Military, in my online store.
Maintain a Active Lifestyle, Your Body will Meet the Challenge IF You Maintain Your Health & Fitness
Working in Transmission lines work and aviation flying Bell 206-D Jet Ranger is quite a leap and transition to being grounded and entering retirement. So I bought an INDIAN Scout Bobber V-Twin 60, that is as close to flying that I could get without the expense of aviation. I still work at our aircraft hangar where I still help out with catering for airshows frying up fresh Mississippi catfish. We have fed as many as 400 people that attend these airshows.
Even if you’re not busy every day of each week of every month, planning and preparing for events keeps my mind and body active and engaged, very important for purpose. I also work on my farm. All these activities are essential to my health and mental fitness. Case in point, Last Friday I was planning to use my KUBOTA Tractor to knock down some winter weeds in the pasture, when I discovered the front right tire was flat.
I took off the 85- pound front tire and tried to re-seat the tire around the tire ream, that I couldn’t re-inflate. I had to load the tire and ream up in the back of my truck and take it to the Superior Tires in Canton, Mississippi where they resealed the tire against the ream for me. Then reload the 85- pound tire back up into my truck and unloaded and reinstalled it on my KUBOTA Tractor. Thanks God for pneumatic tools, they save a man or women a lot of hard work.
If I didn’t maintain my fitness level working out in my Home Gym, I couldn’t have made the tire repaired. Always challenge your body and mind with regular workouts including cardio-aerobics with strength training. I love working on my farm and participating in sports. Just as important as sports and fitness are to kids in their developmental years, sports and fitness is twice as important to adults, especially as we get over 55.
Above, I’m 64 years old and soon to be 65. I still workout in my Home Gym six-times a week and work on my farm in addition to playing golf 4- times a week, walking the course. My active lifestyle and my DELPHI DIET & FITNESS has provided me the ability to enjoy life after my professional career. I let you be the judge how effective The DELPHI DIET & FITNESS System is at almost the age 65.■

Like my lineman Foreman once stated- Chuck, It isn’t what you’re doing that matters, it is HOW you look do it that does matter!
In the photograph below, I’m 64 years old. This photograph was taken after we did a WINTER Photo shoot (18Jan22) for our line of US WINGS® Leather Jacket that I carry in our online store. We took advantage of an unseasonable warm January day in the mid-60’s to do this photo shoot. The camera crew challenged me to an AB Challenge where I’m posing without my shirt. I credit my DELPHI DIET & FITNESS System for my physical condition, and the condition of my skin.

I had the pleasure of having Noah Newman for an interview in our Press Box for an one-on-one interview who is with WJTV-12 Television Station here in Jackson, Mississippi. This was at our hangar in Madison, Mississippi.

As appreciation for me doing this 3-part video series, the WJTV-12 production team put together a Television promotional that they ran and that I could use in my golf training business.
