The Effectiveness of QATSPY GOLF Coaching Technique with GoDaddy.com Advisor

I have my domain address (www.espygolfapp.com) for my website with Go Daddy.com, which provides great technical assistance. They are always reaching out to me to offer their assistance. Such was the case last Friday (22Feb2019), when my technical advisor contacted me to check in and offer any assistance, if needed. As it turned out, the tables were turned; I ended up offering my technical advisor assistance with his golf game.

During our phone conversation, he stated that he finally picked up the game of golf, like I had been suggesting for him to do after years. Just to get a feel for his status, I asked him what he typically shot. He informed me that he shot a score around 115, which is an average score for the beginner golfer. He plays once a week, which is also close to an average of 1.43 rounds played per week for most golfers.

He noticed from my website that I had a category called The Locker Room, of self-coaching downloads, on the mental and mechanics components of the golf swing. He asked me about the effectiveness of my self-coaching approach to golf?

I stated to him, instead of me telling you how effective my Self-Coaching Training Procedures are, let me explain over the phone. That should prove how effective the fundamentals of the QATSPY Golf Swing are. What I explained over the phone will allow you to actually take your game to the golf course and improve your score by 20 percent.

I explained to him that basically every golfer has to essentially teach him/herself the game of golf and the swing mechanics. Because it actually comes down to the golfer translating what they’ve learned, either during their practice sessions or lessons, into elements they can understand and actually apply on the golf course.

There lies the real problem with most golf lessons and practice sessions. The real golf coach isn’t a person, but the golfer’s own subconscious mind, or the Phantom Factor of Golf.

I refer to the golfer’s subconscious mind as the Phantom Factor, because it doesn’t show up for golf lessons or practice sessions with the golfer. The Phantom Factor only shows up when the golfer steps foot onto the golf course. It’s called adrenaline. It causes the golfer to revert back to their instincts.

What brings the golfer’s Phantom Factor out is their adrenaline, as this causes the golfer to rely solely on their instincts and not on what they spent hours and weeks working on during practice sessions and lessons. I asked my technical advisor if that sounded familiar? He relied, “It describes my golf game perfectly.”

I asked him if he’d ever heard of two conditions that govern the golfer’s game on the golf course:

  • Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Syndrome
  • Driving Hypnosis (Mindfulness)

These have more to do with the golfer’s game than any single technique that the golfer could learn from golf lessons or during their practice sessions.

The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Obstacle

I explained to the technical advisor that the biggest obstacle facing the average golfer isn’t what they’re doing as much as it is how they are doing it and with what. The golfer may very well practice their golf swing using their conscious mind by focusing on the WHAT. But I can guarantee the golfer that once they step foot onto the golf course, they won’t be using their conscious mind as to WHAT, but will rely solely on their subconscious mind as to HOW. The subconscious mind runs the show when it comes to HOW the golfer will perform on the course.

Driving Hypnosis (Mindfulness)

Driving hypnosis occurs usually to an experienced driver who has years of experience driving. On a scenic highway or familiar route is where the driver’s mind is relaxed and the driver’s instincts kick into high gear. The driver’s conscious mind is allowed to focus on something totally different, like the destination.

For short periods of time, the driver’s conscious mind doesn’t even remember driving along stretches of highway or landmarks. But the driver is still able to navigate the highway and traffic safely. While Driving Hypnosis is unsafe for driving a vehicle down the highway, it works great for driving a golf ball down the fairway. Because the golfer’s swing mechanics and sequence are totally instinctive.

To use Driving Hypnosis on the golf course, like what occurs on the highway, these six (6) conditions must be in place:

  1. Normal and routine tasks and conditions must exist.
  2. Rely on a high degree of relaxation, confidence, and muscle memory.
  3. The conscious and subconscious minds are focused on two different situations.

Golf Anatomy 101

I gave my technical advisor a brief, two-minute anatomy of a golf swing course during our phone conversation. I asked him to focus on three muscles in his wrists and forearms and two knuckles. I want you to focus your attention more on HOW, rather than the WHAT. Our subconscious mind doesn’t do well with WHAT; it works well with HOW!

Have you ever watched a magician perform a trick? You don’t ask WHAT they did, you saw that. You ask the question HOW, instead. How did they do that! Same in golf, as coaches focus on WHAT, and not the HOW. The ergonomics of the golf swing is the HOW.

The golfer has to establish links with their golf swing, starting with muscle memory. A great place to start is with the wrists and the forearms on how to SET UP the golf swing; the key word here is set up:

NOTE: The technical advisor with GoDaddy.com was right-handed. For reference, I will use right-handed reference below in the Anatomy of a golf swing.

SYNC SET UP Muscles Right Palmaris Longus Muscle/Ligament- by Dorsiflex, or hinging back of the right wrist. This Ligament is visual in most people, shown below, along with the hinge action. This sets one of the two muscles that has direct contact with the handle of the golf club, the Thenars.

The PRESET SET UP Muscles

  • Left Brachio-Radialis Muscle- by Pronating, or cocking, the left wrist. The Brachio-Radialis muscles are very unique muscles, the left Brachio-Radialis pronates (open the clubface), supinates (close the clubface), and flexes (bends) the left forearm at the elbow after impact during the follow through.

The other uniqueness about the Brachio-Radialis muscle is that it links the arm (upper arm) with the golfer’s wrist at a nodule just above the left thumb, called the Radial Styloid Process (RSP). This is where the golfer’s power is developed. Clubhead speed is produced with the right Brachio-Radialis muscle.

The Call Back

After we talked on Friday, I asked him to take a stick, or what I use, a golf baton, and set these three muscles (Right Palmaris Longus ligament, Right Hypothenar, and Left Brachio-Radialis muscle) and call me back on Monday, after he played Sunday with his friend. The golf baton is a cutoff section of a regular golf shaft to 22-inches, with an attachable weight that can be attached to the end, and this represents the overload training technique. This overload is what baseball batters use in the on- deck circle swing with a weighted donut. Don’t exceed the weight of 20 percent over the weight of a normal golf club. I re-grip my golf baton with a training grip, where a golfer can work on their grip and correctly set their grip.

The following Monday my technical advisor with GoDaddy.com called me back with a report of his performance with the QATSPY Golf Technique. Remember, he shot a score of 115, typically. His score that he shot Sunday was 92. He dropped 23 strokes in less than 2-days by working with the Sync/Preset Technique that I explained to him over the phone. This was not in person, but over a 30- minute phone call.

I emailed him my copy of the ESPY Golf Swing procedure that was a step-by-step procedure with color diagrams. With a 30-minute phone call and a simple step-by-step procedure, my technical advisor improved his score by 20 percent.

I told him that this was just the start toward improving his handicap; with time and following the Sync/Preset technique that should become instinctive, he should be shooting in the low 80’s to upper 70’s, within six to nine months.

This is true as long as he follows the Sync/Preset/Yaw Golf Technique and the Checkpoints that allow the golf swing to become instinctive. Below is the Self-Coaching Training Procedure (STP) that I emailed my technical advisor at GoDaddy.com. This STP is in a download to reference during your training sessions.
