How Do You Mend a Broken Heart Syndrome? The Medical Segment on Thursday’s WJTV’s Noon News Show, Broken Heart Syndrome was the Topic
The Bee Gees’ How do you mean a broken Heart
February is Women’s Heart Health month and Valentine’s is coming up this Monday. Use this as a hint guys and make sure you have taken care of your Valentine. And don’t forget, if you can cook, take the opportunity to cook and have a special dinner with your Valentine. And, of course, you gotta clean up afterwards. The secret to the culinary arts is to do as much prep work as you can before the dinner and pre-measure all your ingredients. I have had vast experience at being in a commercial kitchen and bakery. I used to work with my grandfather in his catering business.
I mentioned Women’s Heart Health month, as women are seeing a rise in heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, along with cholesterol levels. These are major issues that can impact one’s lifestyle and the ability to enjoy one’s life. We often think of Diet and Exercise as ways to improve heart health, hypertension, high glucose, and high cholesterol levels. But there’s one more factor, which is your Lifestyle.
But, your lifestyle figures in as a major factor in this equation that can either help or negatively impact these health factors, listed above. On WJTV-12, Chloe Ortega, a news anchor with WJTV-12 (in Jackson Mississippi), had Dr. Timothy Quinn on their Medical segment this last Thursday at 12 noon (10Feb2022) discussing Broken Heart Syndrome, which is actually a medical condition, and is serious, if not addressed. It effects more women than men.
But Broken Heart Syndrome is associated with an unusual stress and anxiety level that is caused from an intense emotional situation(s) in one’s life, that is also complicated by the COVID-19 Pandemic. The person experiencing Broken Heart Syndrome can actually feel that they are experiencing an actual heart attack, due to pain in the chest area and the shortness of breath. The Broken Heart Syndrome interferes with the heart’s ability to pump blood through the body effectively.
If you’re experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath, don’t hesitate, as you need to call 911 immediately and get medical attention. This is not the time to take any risk with your health; and/or talk yourself into thinking that you’re not experiencing a heart attack, or myocardial infarction. Let the medical staff determine this for you, they are the experts that can evaluate your medical situation.
Expectations Associated with Valentines
I bring up Valentines, because of expectations and emotions associated with Valentine’s Day, where in some situations things don’t always meet our expectations. This could be from a current situation that is being experienced NOW; or a past situation that was experienced in the past that still has raw emotions that we don’t even realize that we are dealing with subconsciously.
While Diet and Exercise are important to address our heart health that is emphasized during the month of February, there is also another factor and just as important part of our heart health, which is your Lifestyle. I realize that Diet and Exercise gets the Lion’s share of attention, but we can’t ignore our lifestyles.
I have followed the DELPHI DIET & FITNESS System for the past seven years at age 64. DELPHI stands for Diet-Exercise-Lifestyle- Health Index. At age 64, I have seen positive results from following The DELPHI DIET & FITNESS System. If you feel good, you also have a better positive outlook on life and become more active and meet more people that have your interest. My photograph is below was taken during an interview with Noah Newman at our hangar:
My Exercise Regimen is based on CASE (Cardio, Aerobics, Strength, Elements). Cardio exercise improves your blood flow while Aerobics improves your oxygen levels. Strength obviously strengthens and conditions your muscles, but strong muscles also improve collagen levels for healthier looking skin. Again, I’m 64, soon to be 65 in the photograph above. DO NOT overlook strength & conditioning training. After our mid 20’s, we start to lose muscle mass. We can’t afford to do that, strong muscles are important for a strong immune system.
Situational Awareness Lifestyle
Lifestyle deals with how we interact with our environment and our ability to have a life that is fulfilling. Like the old verse from Proverbs 23:7 states- For as one thinks in their heart, so you become. And what President Calvin Coolidge had a quote about worrying and anxiety- If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you. In other words, 90% of the things we worry about DON’T HAPPEN!
One of the best approaches to our Lifestyle is to be situational aware. Pilots use situational awareness to avoid problems while flying.
Here are some tips about Lifestyle Situational Awareness:
· Follow a healthy diet and fitness program and monitor your vitals signs.
· Stay active in your life, like being evolved in sports and social events.
· Think young and be active everyday.
· Don’t let others determine your self-worth.
· Don’t try to meet others’ expectations.
· Don’t let your past determine your future.
· Use failures to gain needed experience; and success to build confidence.
· Don’t waste your time and energy on being vindictive. The best revenge is just being successful, because you don’t have to lower your standards to someone else or compromise your values. You don’t have to apologize for your success or even explain yourself to others. And a punching bag doesn’t hurt either, a workout is an excellent anger and stress reliever, especially if you are sweating. And success is pretty much self explanatory!
· Develop perseverance, because nothing can replace persistence and the journey will allow you to learn about your strengths and your capabilities.
· Do not let current situations determine future results.
· Friendships- they evolve, and don’t associate with people who are negative. There are very few true foul weather friends that you can count on, don’t take them for granted. Case in point- When I retired, the people that I developed business relationships with that I bought millions of dollar material from just vanished after I retired. That is what I mean about how friendships evolve. Some friendships are more about what you do, than who you are.
· Any relationship has to be based on mutual respect and acceptance.
· Don’t try to relive the past, as it doesn’t work too well in the present.
Applying Situational Awareness and Sportsmanship to Your Lifestyle:
We talk about characteristics of Sportsmanship in sports, but these characteristics can apply equally to your life and toward friendship, especially to friendship in a marriage.
This is an excerpt for my Book, The ESPY GOLF SWING COACH from Section 5.4:
5.4 If friendship was developed in terms of true grit and sportsmanship, there would be no limit to what a person could accomplish in life. True grit, with sportsmanship, includes perseverance and integrity. In most organized sports, sportsmanship is included as part of the athlete’s curriculum. Sportsmanship also includes such characteristics as humility, integrity, commitment, perseverance, respect, honor, honesty, fairness, sacrifice, responsibility, preparation, discipline, trustworthiness, and a hard work ethic, to name just a few. A friendship based on true grit and sportsmanship could withstand the journey of life, in all its ups and down.
If you want to enhance any relationship, get involved in a sport. Golf is an excellent because it isn’t determined by one’s strength, size, or even age. Get started with The GOLFER’S BRACHS-PALMER Technique.

In the photograph below, I’m 64 years old. This photograph was taken after we did a WINTER Photo shoot (18Jan22) for our line of US WINGS® Leather Jacket that I carry in our online store. We took advantage of an unseasonable warm January day in the mid-60’s to do this photo shoot. The camera crew challenged me to an AB Challenge where I’m posing without my shirt. I credit my DELPHI DIET & FITNESS System for my physical condition, and the condition of my skin.
