I have to admit, it is difficult to synchronize your schedule with sports, since we have been a country without sports. When you develop and get accustomed to alternative schedules, it is difficult to tune back into sports and be aware of sports being discussed. Last Sunday before the final day of the PGA Championship, Sir Nick Faldo was discussing strength training with Bryson DeChambeau.

What I appreciate about Sir Nick Faldo is the emphasis that he places on fitness. He points this out in his broadcasting of PGA Golf. At least golf is a great sport to play during this pandemic, due to the natural social distancing it provides.

Usually any topic being discussed by Sir Nick Faldo is worth your time to listen to, especially concerning golf and fitness. Sir Nick Faldo was hosting his show entitled Faldo Formula. I just caught the last part of his show where he was discussing Bryson’s increased distance with training techniques that he has been working on, focusing on the Latissimus Dorsi, or what we refer to as Lat muscles.

Also an effective way to improve back muscles and reduce your sciatic nerve issues is strengthening your abdominal muscles. There are two (2) exercises that I perform in my CASPER PART 1Fitness Program that addresses sciatic nerve issues– Ab Roller and leg lifts, both are excellent in relieving sciatic never issues:

Below is my CASPER PART 2 Tubing Exercise YouTube Video. What’s great about tubing exercise is that older people can perform these exercises in the convenience of their home, and you just need a door jamb as an anchor point.

Tubing comes in a wide variety of tensions, from as little as 8 pounds, all the way up to 100 pounds, that are safe to use. The tension isn’t as critical as just working your muscles with toning. Please view my YouTube Video where I go over the advantages of toning. If you think you’re too old to do weights, you need to think again, as I’m 63 years old in this video.

Part 2 of my CASPER Fitness Program has to do with toning, using elastic tubing for full range of motion under tension. I focus on my lat and abdominal muscles because I depend on these for generating power and clubhead speed. Bryson touched on how he worked the Lat muscles, but just as important are the abdominal muscles. I have picked up approximately 30 more yards in my tee shots. I’m now hitting between 295 to 300-yard tee shots.

In the Home Depot Orange Bucket 8-Iron challenge, I placed the bucket that represents a 135-yard average shot with my 8-Iron. Since I have been working on strengthening my Lats and abs muscles, I was hitting 148 yard shots with my 8-Iron during this Home Depot Orange Bucket Challenge.

I’m in the process of producing The Home Depot Orange Bucket Challenge with my driver, like I did in September of 2014. But this time, I’m 52 pounds lighter in weight and have been working on strengthening my core muscles. I will use two orange buckets, one representing 285 yards, my previous average, and a second blue bucket, representing at 300 yards.

December of 2019, I started my Home Gym that I completed by February of 2020. Looking back now it looks like a great investment and a stroke of genius. I did the work myself with help from my neighbor for laying the 3/4-inch plywood and hanging the 1/2- inch sheetrock.

The Importance of Sports to Academics and Our Long-term Health

We talk about the impact High School Sports has on our youth to their mental and physical health. Well, sports actually has a greater impact than just during their high school years. Sports actually provides a great foundation for long-term health/fitness.

 

The health/fitness that are important to a young person’s performance participating in sports during high school is just as important to them in their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and even 90’s.

 

People who participate in a sport as they age are motivated and have an incentive to stay in shape. There are several sports that people can participate in as they age, and I use the sport of golf because of the dynamics that it requires, mainly flexibility and core strength. In the photograph below, I’m 63 years and still walk the course.

For those debating if golf is a sport, I would suggest you consider taking a hike with a 40-pound pack over eight-and-a-half miles. That’s exactly what I’m doing every time I play 18-holes. Plus, you have to have a high level of mental discipline. And one other advantage of golf is that it naturally provides social distancing.

To Wear a Mask or Not to Wear a Mask is the Debate

I realize that there is an on going debate whether to wear a mask or not to wear a mask, and the debate wasn’t helped by medical professionals coming out in February and March of 2020 telling the general public that masks weren’t needed. This is the reason we must do our own research by gathering our own evidence. But a recent Bio-Experiment gives evidence that masks are effective. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock did a petri dish test on four (4) masks and not wearing a mask that was produced by FOX-16 channel out of Little Rock. The YouTube below shows the results of that test:
