During World War II, the American Volunteer Group (AVG), known as the Flying Tigers, flew combat missions in China against Japan, months before Pearl Harbor. The famous P-40 Warhawk with the tiger teeth that was part of the P-40’s nose art. The pilots were also distinguished by the A-2 Leather Flight Jacket that included the blood Chit sewn into the back lining of the pilot’s jacket.
The purpose of the Blood Chit was a way to identify the American pilots, if shot down, that Chinese civilians would provide aid and protection to them from being captured or killed. This Blood Chit continued to be used during the Korean War and included the American Flag.

About the featured photograph, even I was pressed back into service after being retired now 6- years during restoration work during Hurricanes Laura and Delta. I worked 33- years as a lineman and Grid Engineer in Mississippi.
