February LADIES RED Heart Health Month– Cardiovascular Disease is the No. 1 Cause of Death among Women, Prevention is based on Monitoring your Numbers. Key Indicators are Blood Pressure, Glucose, Cholesterol levels, and Waistline for optimum Healthy lifestyle

My Blood Pressure actually indicated another serious Health Threat that I will cover later in this article. This proves that your Blood Pressure monitoring improves your overall Health condition and awareness.

Ladies monitoring your Blood Pressure and Glucose levels are key indicators for you to keep track of and record along with maintaining a healthy diet, exercise, and lifestyle. Both the Blood Pressure and Glucose monitors are fairly inexpensive and are available at your local Walmart or drugstores. I would strongly recommend that you purchase these for you and your family’s health to be used at home on a daily basis.

The Cholesterol monitor isn’t that easy to locate and is expensive to purchase. Your General Practitioner’s office can help you monitor your Cholesterol levels during the year. I would recommend that you do your Cholesterol checks or readings on a quarterly basis and your Blood Pressure daily and Glucose monthly.

Your Blood Pressure is a KEY Indicator that should be monitored on a daily basis! It is also a key indicator if your diet is healthy and if you’re getting enough exercises, sleep, and dealing with stress levels adequately.

Impact of The Blood Pressure

Healthy Blood Pressure has the biggest impact on your general health for a number of reasons. Major one is to monitor your hypertension that leads to heart disease, strokes, decrease oxygen levels, and can indicate onset of certain cancers. Ideal Blood Pressure is at or below 120/80 to above 110/60.

I take my Blood Pressure every night to monitor my overall health status. This actually saved my life back in July of 2023. Starting in July of 2023, my Blood Pressure started to elevate from 116/69 my normal (without medication) to 157/98 by December of 2023.

The elevation caused me to move up my annual physical from December of 2023 to August of 2023 to see what was the cause. There were two abnormalities in my vitals from my physical, as noted at the end of this article. One was my Blood Pressure and the other was my PSA levels. My PSA was 6.2 above the normal reading of 4.0.

I realize that PSA and Prostate issues are a man’s issue, but I’m using this as an example to indicate how blood pressure can indicate other medical issues even in women. To be honest with you, I was more concerned about my Total Cholesterol reading (that was 158) than my PSA level.

One reason for my lack of concern was that Prostate Cancer didn’t run in my family medical history. This indicates how your family medical history can either HELP or HURT you by focusing on just one expect of your health then your general health.

My Blood Pressure concerns was confirmed when my Prostate Biopsy indicated that I had Stage 1 Cancer with a Gleason Scale of 3+4 (meaning it was a non-aggressive-type Cancer). The Advice of my Urologist/Surgeon was to have a Prostatectomy. The pathological report from my prostate indicated that the Cancer was actually at Stage 2, but was contained in the Prostate.

So ladies the moral of the story is this– it is to take your Blood Pressure seriously and not to neglect it. You can use your Blood Pressure to detect any number of other medical issues you might have. I can safely say it saved my life sitting here today writing this article.

After My Prostatectomy Blood Pressure Readings

Just to confirm that my Blood Pressure actually did indicate my Prostate Cancer, I have been monitoring my Blood Pressure nightly and below represents my current Blood Pressure readings over the past two (2) weeks. I gave my body time to recover from surgery before I started taking my Blood Pressure.

My Blood Pressure Taken on 22Feb2024. My Blood Pressure returned to its normal range after my Prostatectomy. Matter of fact my Blood Pressure readings are actually better.

Your Glucose and Cholesterol Levels

Diabetes like cancer is a very serious medical concern, as well. Diabetes can affect every aspect of your health from cardiovascular disease to losing your eyesight, to amputation of a limb. Ladies, you want to keep your non-fasting Glucose readings at or below 140 and fasting reading below 110. Your Glucose readings have a direct impact on your weight gain and loss. Figure that there is a reason to your vital numbers changing that you need to have checked out further.

If I dismissed my Blood Pressure reading back in July of 2023, I wouldn’t be here to write about my Stage 2 Prostate Cancer!

It is important that you maintain a healthy diet (consisting of a diet high in Protein, Fiber, Complex-Carbohydrates and Complex-Starches, Probiotics, and Omega-3 Fats). It is very dangerous to eliminate healthy Carbs and healthy Starches from your diet for your heart Health.

Exercises

Exercise regularly where you can get your Target Heart Rate (THR) up to at least the level of (220-age) x 0.80= THR. Also develop a hobby that can be developed into a second career later. My hobbies are work is welding shop, writing about sports psychology, and operating my sportswear, aviation, and fitness performance business.

This was an AB Challenge that I did back in November of 2023 after our photoshoot of our Christmas Leather Flight Jackets at age 66.

Example of my THR= (220 – 66) x 0.80 = 123 Heart beats per minute, but I usually reach a heart rate (bpm) of 135 during my workouts.

Your exercise should also include strength training with cardio-aerobics and yoga for your heart health. NOT DO abandon your (*) strength training in your routine workout sessions. Your strength training is the best beauty care technique that you will find. Below is a 10- minutes workout video that I did last December of 2023, to summarize my typical workout before I had my Prostatectomy in February.

(*) Don’t confuse strength training with weight training. Strength training can consist of light weights with increased reps for toning your muscles. I personally don’t have a weight that I work out with heavier than 45- lbs.

Cholesterol

You want your Total Cholesterol at or below 180.

Health Waistline

So what is a healthy Waistline for you– This is a huge factor more than just a fashion statement in regards to keeping the previous numbers stated in the healthy range. It is simple, Take your height in inches and divide by 2. For example, let’s say your height is 66-inches, like my, your healthy waistline would be 66/2.0= 33- inches.

I prefer measuring my waistline as opposed to weigh-ins. Your waistline, neckline, skin around your eyes, and your skin in general are more noticeable than your weight.

How to Positive Impact Your Numbers with Your DIET

I mention DIET and EXERCISE as being important factors on maintaining your healthy numbers. First your DIET accounts for 80 percent of lowering your numbers based on WHAT you eat (food with a DAC score at or below 3.25) and WHEN you eat (eating between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.). The best thing you can do to positively impact your overall health is to NOT EAT PAST 6 p.m.

The WHAT can be determined by using 9- data points off the Nutrition Label, shown below:

The DAC score for these Ranch Type Beans is 1.97

There are two perfect foods that are below 3.25; and these are Pinto Beans and Sweet Potatoes. Both of these foods can turn your body into a calorie-burning juggernaut and lower your numbers while flattening your abdominal area even over the age of 60.

The WHEN to eat takes advantage when your body naturally metabolizes your food during the most effective period. Eating between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., can drop more than your numbers, it can also drop the age of your skin. This has got to get your attention, refer to my AB Challenge Photo above at age 66.

Eating past 6 p.m. interferes with your body’s natural ability to repair and rejuvenate itself that includes your skin while you’re sleeping. Nothing ever good happens by eating past 6 p.m. Nothing tells your age more than your skin and the skin around your eyes. Wear aviators like our Ray-Ban Aviators that has a 100% UVA Protection.

I model our Safari Cockpit Collection and Aviation Gear in the featured photograph above with one of our models, Heather who is in her early 20’s. In this featured photograph, I’m 66 years old and have followed THE MELIORA DIET & FITNESS Program since December of 2014. My main objective then was to drop only my weight and inches off my waistline, but I also dropped something totally unexpected, I dropped 30- years off the age of my skin. So eating before 6 p.m. actual does work. It is like suspended animation, or like time has frozen in regards to your skin appearance.

Below is my actual Waistline Chart that I used to track my waistline where I was trying to get down to 66/2.2 = a 30-inch waistline that I have maintained a 28.75- inch waistline since September of 2015.

My actual Waistline Chart. Even now in 2024 I still have maintain a waistline of 28.75- inches at age 66.
