Develop the Wrist Action from Tee-to-Green- Develop a Repeatable Routine for Your Drive, Chip, to Putting, as easy as Swinging Baseball Bat

If you remember the comedy movie Caddyshack, you remember the famous quote by Ty Webb, played by Chevy Chase mentioned to Danny Noonan, played by Michael O’Keefe. Lines in this comedy were actually more memorable that reveal more truth than lectures or coaching tips or lessons.

Be the Ball quote-

I’m going to give you a little advice. There’s a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.

This quote covers every important coaching technique for the golfer or athlete to use to improve their golf game, on and off the course. Coaching techniques to be effective have to cover both on and off the golf course, court, or field.

For Coaching to be Effective

For coaching to be effective, both on and off the golf course, coaching has to be presented under similar conditions that the golfer will perform under in the round. This is where another quote is important- Practice how you play and play how you practice.

The golfer’s mind has to create conditions that will exist during the round during their practice sessions. This can be done using challenges. For example: I use the Home Depot Orange Bucket Challenge, in the YouTube Video below, during all of my practice and training sessions.

Here’s an important fundamental in coaching to be effective on the golf course. If your golf swing mechanics and techniques aren’t instinctive, the golfer won’t be able to use what they spent hours practicing on the range or in training sessions.

Breaking Down the Quote:

The FORCE is your subconscious mind.

Here’s a FACT- We don’t play golf with our conscious mind, we rely totally on our subconscious mind

The subconscious mind contains all your instincts and muscle memory that will dominate our golf game on the golf course. The subconscious mind controls 90 percent of all our natural responses on the golf course and other routine actives. I can Guarantee the golfer ONE THING– If your golf swing isn’t instinctive, you will not have techniques that you practiced for hours available to use on the golf course. Your golf swing has to be a routine, but more important, be instinctive motor skill (muscle memory).

There is one Subconscious Rule that is essential to understand and be able to apply to every one of your practice sessions. Rule No. 1 states- The subconscious mind does not and must not differentiate between visualizations and real situations. In other words, your practice sessions have to be performed under similar conditions that you will have to deal with on the course. You got to develop challenges during your practice sessions.

This means that if you don’t create similar conditions for your practice sessions, your subconscious mind will disregard all those hours spent on the practice range or in training sessions. You’ve got to develop a challenge-type practice session to be effective. Your subconscious mind works off patterns, like Déjà vu, all over again.

If your golf practice isn’t based on Déjà vu, guess what, your subconscious mind will fall back on what it is accustom to! You guessed it; your mind will fall back to your old golf swing and habits! I know that you, as the golfer, never dealt with that situation before on the golf course.

If you’ve ever wondered why your practice techniques don’t make it to the golf course with you intact, you just discovered the reason WHY. Below I have attached a training video that I use to hit 100 pitch shots every day. This is the very same wrist action in the golf swing from tee-to-green that I use in my challenge-based training sessions everyday.

Get in TOUCH with it-

All of our instincts and habits are located in our subconscious mind. Our five (5) senses allow us to access our instincts/habits without having to think. Focusing on an image, sound, or feel allows us to hardwire our practice sessions and performances into our subconscious mind. The more you can envision and feel your golf swing routine, it allows our subconscious mind to perform In-The-Zone, or ESP.

ExtraSensory Performance is based on our ability to rely totally on our instincts or natural motor skills. In golf, if our golf swing isn’t instinctive, we won’t have the ability to perform our golf swing on the golf course. This is something that I can guarantee you!

When we practice on the range or in a training facility, we are using our conscious mind, THINKING processes. Once we step foot onto the course, court, or field, our subconscious mind will take over our entire performance, or in this case, our golf game. Only what is instinctive is what you will have to work with on the golf course. The conscious mind can only hinder your ability to perform. Thinking is just like static over the radio. Not that clear sound we are accustom to hearing with our Bluetube devices. So we have to STOP THINKING and just FOCUS.

Focusing on the ball, the target, in front of the ball, or the intended flight path will engage our subconscious mind. This is true for our practice sessions, as well as our round of golf. The best example of using our focus is what is called Driving Hypnoses. Your driving skills are so routine and instinctive that your conscious mind is allowed to focus on something other than your driving. This kicks-in your subconscious mind automatically.

Because our driving routine is so instinctive, we don’t even remember driving along stretches of the highway or past landmarks for short periods of time, usually between a 4-to-5 minute period of time. Your instinctive driving skills are so highly developed that you are able to navigate the highway and traffic without issues. This is exactly how you want to model your practice and training sessions to develop your golf swing instincts.

The more you focus, the less you think and the more you develop your instincts for your golf swing, just like driving skills that you develop over the years.

Here are THREE (3) conditions that must be present during your practice and performance for your subconscious mind to kick INTO GEAR:

  1. Normal and routine tasks and conditions must exist.
  2. Rely on a high degree of relaxation, confidence, and muscle memory.
  3. The conscious and subconscious minds are focused on two different situations.

Here’s an observation: If one’s driving skills were solely based on cognitive processes, or thinking processes, you defiantly would not enjoy taking that scenic drive that we all enjoy doing. Especially if it was in a 1963 Chevrolet Stingray Corvette driving out in the country and down a scenic highway. You got to love Three Dog Night song Out in the Country. So in conclusion– If your golf swing isn’t instinctive, you won’t have it available to use on the golf course.

A Great Training Technique to Use in Your Golf Practice Session

Here’s a great training technique you can use at the conclusion of your training or practice session- Whatever you worked on during your practice session, take those same techniques with your driver and hit 10 consecutive balls off the deck. They have to be consecutive to be effective.

Reason is, this type of practice is so effective that it takes a tremendous amount of FOCUS, ENVISION, and FEEL to execute these techniques off the hard deck with 10 consecutive golf shots. The objective to this type practice is to continue hitting balls off the hard deck with your driver until you can make 10 consecutive golf shots with the same flight path and distance to a 20-foot target, like an orange bucket challenge above.

The result is that your practice session will be hardwired into your subconscious mind; THIS IS THE FORCE in your golf game, as an instinctive motor skill, NO THINKING REQUIRED.

The First Video above where I’m demonstrating The Home Depot Orange Bucket Challenge was taped in September of 2014 before I started the 704 ASCOT- DIET & FITNESS Program. I was about to retire and start my Sports and Apparel Business and I needed to lose about 45- pounds. The photograph below was taken in March of 2021 in my GYM after a workout. On the 704 ASCOT- DIET & FITNESS Program I managed to lose 45- pounds in just 6- weeks and have kept the weight off now for seven- years at age 63.
