Why Health & Maintaining Fitness are IMPORTANT!– Tiger Woods Masters Return was Possible Because of His Commitment to His Health & Fitness
Since Tiger Woods’ SUV accident last year, there were serious questions if he would ever return to the sport of golf, much less, even walk again and have a full life with his kids and friends. There is no doubt seeing Tiger Woods returning to Augusta, Georgia, just 14- months since his tragic accident was a miracle in anyone’s book; not just to walk the course, but to shoot a score PAR (E) on day ONE and one over (1+) on day TWO, making the cut for the weekend.
With God’s grace, excellent medical teams, and with rehab professionals, Tiger was able to appear and actually play the Masters this year. But there is one more tangible advantage Tiger had working in his favor, his commitment to his strength and conditioning fitness. Up until Tiger Woods, except for Gary Player, appeared in the sport of golf, health and fitness wasn’t an important part or priority in golf. Tiger proved that a stronger athlete is actually a better athlete.
If It Wasn’t for Tiger Woods Mental and Physical Workout
If it wasn’t for Tiger Woods Special Forces mentality and physical fitness, he couldn’t have achieved what is considered by anyone’s’ assessment as the Impossible Dream of returning to golf. First with his son, Charlie, last year and now the Masters, this year. Tiger’s mental and physical conditioning allowed him to be able to conquer insurmountable odds and enjoy what he loves doing, playing golf, promoting his other business interests, and enjoy his family.
We aren’t unlike Tiger Woods in his desire of his dream of enjoying what he loves doing, especially as we age and when we retire. During our lifetime we will have to deal with setbacks in our health; but the key is our ability to draw on our health and fitness to be able to recover, make the needed adjustments to regain our normal lifestyle again.
Will there be pain, soreness, and stiffness? I can guarantee it. I’m 64 years old and I have to depend on my yoga in the morning and before my workout sessions just to reduce my soreness and the stiffness. I can do everything I did when I was in my mid 30’s, but now at age 64, except for running, it takes time to recover, and ICE is your best friend.
Surviving a Pandemic Proved Just How Important Our Fitness Is to Us
Having lived through the pandemic, like many of us since March of 2020, and now coming out of its grip, we have learned how important our health and fitness is to our survival. A lot of people started fitness programs since they were homebound during the pandemic, a good thing. We also learned the serious impact that underlying conditions had on our health and how these underlying conditions compromised our immune systems, like for example- hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.
What is tragic about these underlying conditions is that they compromise our immune systems and are preventable. We can take action to prevent these underlying condition with a healthy diet and following a fitness program, and getting some sun. The number ONE underlying condition that caused hospitalizations, and in some cases, death during this pandemic was high blood pressure. Hypertension really has proven to be the silent killer during this pandemic.
Even getting some recommended amount of sunlight per week can address three of these factors by improving our immune system, lower our blood pressure, and reduce our risk of heart diseases. Sunlight boosts our T-cells that are responsible for fighting infectious diseases. Sunlight can also reduce the fat contained in our cells and shrink the cell’s capacity to store fat. This is why it is important for kids of all ages to get involved in an outdoor sport.
My Fitness Regimen is more than just for my Health, but My Line of Work
I posted my normal blood pressure in my AB Challenge, above, where I’m shown in our hangar on my INDIAN Scout Bobber 60 Motorcycle. This was taken on a challenge from the camera crew after we just did a photo shoot for our Quapaw Aviation Tiger Supply Outfitters Collection on January 18th, 2022. They couldn’t believe that I didn’t gain weight over the holidays. I’m 64 years old in the hangar photograph and I still workout 6- days per week in my Home GYM.
NOTE: To have an effective workout session, you should reach your Target Heart Rate (THR) for at least 15- minutes usually performing cardio/aerobic-type exercises. Your THR is based on = (220- Your Age) x 0.85, or in my case, my THR = (220-64) x 0.85 = 132 bpm. I usually get my heart rate up to 149-to-153 bpm during my cycle exercise on either my mountain bike (not shown) or my stationary bike, shown above. But do not neglect your strength straining, it is just as important.
I know too well of the benefits of following a healthy Diet, Exercise, and Lifestyle that includes being active in sports. This has allowed me to model for photo shoots that I do, and work on my farm and in my welding shop. I was able to retire at age 57 when I got into the best shape of my life by losing 52- Lbs. and 8.75- inches in my waistline in just 18- weeks in January of 2015. This has given me the ability to model our Quapaw Aviation Tiger Supply Outfitters Collection, shown below.■
