The WASP was a civilian women pilots organization that the U.S. Army Air Corps used to test fly aircraft and fly aircraft to forward bases in Europe and throughout the Pacific Theater of Operations. These ladies served with honor and distinction to fill what was the shortage of trained and qualified pilots during World War II.
These women needed a flight jacket that recognized not only their service by a grateful nation, but and was tailored to them for protection. The design became the WASP A-2 Leather Flight Jacket. This WASP A-2 Leather Flight Jacket has the same features and protection that the first A-2 Leather Flight Jacket developed in June of 1931. The original design of the A-2 Leather Flight Jackets was designed to protect pilots from future pandemics, like the 1918 Spanish Flu that ravaged through the ranks of WW-I pilots Corps.
I had an aunt that served in the WASP that instilled in me the same love of aviation.
