The Good, Bad, and Ugly: Facts about Fat- Why some Fat is Essential and Good for You to Eat while other fats are Bad & Ugly for You to Eat
There are diets that focus on Carbohydrates, while other diets focus on calories and fats that are consumed. In the pursuit to lose weight and get into shape, I have tried these and other diets that restrict carbohydrates, calories, and fats and had very limited results, even with me sweating and working out on a regular basis in my home gym.
While attention to your calorie and carbohydrates intake is a factor, it isn’t the main factor in your diet for weight loss and health. This caused me to use my Chemical Engineering background for a more effective diet program. Analyzing just the Nutrition Label on foods that is the only common denominator, I was able to develop a diet program that I started following on November 28, of 2014. I developed the ASCOT– DIET & FITNESS Program that finally allowed me to lose weight, in the order of 52- pounds overall.
The ASCOT DIET stands for- Amino acid, Soluble fiber, Caloric Optimized Technique
The ASCOT FITNESS stands for- Aerobic, Strength, Cardio Optimized Technique
I was about to start a sports, health, fitness, and apparel business in March of 2015 and I had to lose weight and get into shape after my hip replacement. The hip injury caused me to gain weight by limiting me being active. The weight that I managed to lose wasn’t your normal run-of-the-mill, four-to-five pounds a week weight loss that some diets render. I’m referring to dropping 35- pounds within 4- weeks and a total of 52- pounds within 9- months. Better than losing the weight, I have managed to keep the weight off, going on 6- years NOW!
You noticed that there is an EVERLAST® punching bag in my GYM. I use it for mental and physical balancing, crucial for playing golf. I will be writing an article for next Thursday (March 11, 2021) on how therapist use the punching bag to help patients deal with Parkinson’s. They refer to the program as ‘ROCK STEADY‘. And ladies, this isn’t your dad’s or man’s workout routine any longer. Boxing bag workout is great for women as well. Also your Nutrition and Fitness are important in your ability to help prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s another dreaded disease we want to TKO.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Your Fats and Carbohydrates Intake
Just as the title implies, there is Good Fat and Carbohydrates, just as there are Bad and Ugly Fat and Carbohydrates. You would be severely jeopardizing your health if you treat all Fat and Carbohydrates as Bad fat. The GOOD fat is important to the absorption of vital minerals and vitamins from your food for our your physical and especially your mental health. The GOOD fat, including unsaturated fat, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, improves your heart and brain health.
Not all fats or carbohydrates add inches and/or pounds to your waistline or raise your LDL cholesterol, blood pressure, and glucose (blood sugar) levels. A person has to have unsaturated fat, like omega-3 fatty acids in their diet. Below is my normal blood pressure reading that I take every night:
Let’s start with the GOOD Fat– Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats
The fats that are classified as unsaturated fats contain the essential omega-3 fatty acids that are a healthy part of your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids provide stability to your emotional wellbeing to reduce mood swings, and provide a sharp mental edge, while reducing mental and physical fatigue. The real benefit of omega-3 fatty acids that are derived from unsaturated fats is surprisingly a weight control element. I found this out while following my ASCOT-DIET Program.
An essential part of the ASCOT-DIET is the Weight Factor that identifies foods that are high in fiber and protein and also contain significant amounts of Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These are considered superchargers in your health and weight loss quest and maintaining healthy status and numbers.
What makes the ASCOT-DIET effective is how the Weight Factor (WF), a simple calculation that uses data directly from the Nutrition Label, helps identify the GOOD omega-3 fatty acids. The Weight Factor (WF) also helps identify what I call the BAD fat, Trans fat and saturated fat and the UGLY components like sugars and starches, or the hidden sugars in your food.
If you want to know the real culprit for your weight gain, it is the hidden sugars, without a doubt. I must admit that starches are a very tantalizing snack, especially potato chips, but they are just as much of a threat to your health as eating candy. If you eat potato chips, you might as well be eating sugar. Starches, to a large degree, are responsible not only for weight gain, but also for raising cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels.
Using the ASCOT-DIET to Identify the Good, Bad, and Ugly in Your Foods
The Weight Factor (WF) is a major component of the ASCOT-DIET Program that allows a person to select healthy and GOOD foods from your grocery stores and/or your favorite restaurant. The WF allows a person to manage their own diet and be able to select foods that are high in proteins, fiber, and Omega-3 fatty acids and avoid sugars, starches, saturated and trans fats (these are really the BAD and UGLY foods). By the way I love the movie and song: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
The Weight Factor allows you to eat healthy by keying in on Amino acids (Proteins), Omega-3 Fatty Acids (Healthy Fats), and Fiber to lose weight. Fiber is great for your completion, as well, as a anti-aging component. The other benefit of the Weight Factor, the cornerstone of the ASCOT-DIET & FITNESS, it allows a person the ability to turn in healthy numbers. Without the Weight Factor, I couldn’t have lost the weight and got into shape to model my line of apparel and appear in my golf training and fitness videos.
The Weight Factor formula pulls from the typical Nutrition Labels on packaged food or websites to help you consume healthy carbohydrates and unsaturated fats to benefit your heart and your cognitive functions. Not all carbohydrates or fats are BAD or are UGLY for your health, but the GOOD carbohydrates or fats are essential to maintain health.
A lot of diets have people thinking that they need to eliminate both carbohydrates and fats from their diets to lose weight. This philosophy actually puts their health at jeopardy, that includes putting your heart health at jeopardy. So instead of presuming that all carbohydrates and fats are BAD and UGLY, the Weight Factor helps you identify the GOOD carbohydrates and fats for a balance healthy diet. I wouldn’t be Claiming this if I wasn’t proof of this statement.
A better approach to your diet and health is to learn when to eat and how to use the Weight Factor to interpret key information from the Nutrition Labels to identify the GOOD carbohydrates and fats to enjoy at meals. That’s correct, I did say the ability to enjoy your meals. If you can’t enjoy your meal, WHY eat the meal.
I’m proof that the ASCOT-DIET & FITNESS Program works; above in my home gym, I’m 63 years old and in better shape now than I was in at age 45. The GOOD carbohydrates and fats, along with the high fiber and protein, doesn’t only allow you to drop weight, but just as important, to drop the appearance of years off your age.
