The 2nd Amendment- Speak Softly, but Carry a Big Stick
President Theodore Roosevelt in his reasoning and foresight to build the modern-day Naval Power to not only defend our way of life, but as a deterrence to those that would want to threaten The United States by believing in the motto- ‘Speak Softly, but carry a big stick.’

We only have to look where local Democrat governments that have failed to protect our 1st Amendments Rights, case in point was in Portland, Oregon. Too often, local Democrat Mayors have told their police forces to stand down in the protection of certain conservative groups or individual 1st Amendments Rights.
The 2nd Amendment A-2 Leather Flight Jacket that I’m wearing in the feature photograph with President Theodore Roosevelt and below with my M-14 Scout Rifle provides an excellent platform to remind people that our 2nd Amendment Right was established to defend our rights and our neighbors right of free speech and press. It is no accident that the Framers used the word Arms that included the sword as well. The sword is used to represent dignity, strength, justice, and both the written and spoken word. Even our Lady Justice carries a sword.

The 1st Amendment cannot be secured or defended without the 2nd Amendment. History demonstrates that our word is only as good as how well we can back up and defend the 1st Amendment. I’m not going to advocate my security to a Mayor that protect rights of some, but ignores the rights of others. The only thing worse than oppression and suppression is a false sense of security offered by our local officials. If history teaches us one thing and that is that lurking in the shadows of government are false promises of peace at the expense of our freedoms, dignity, and our liberties.
The Framers of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights knew that our rights had to be defended, not just by a militia only, but by individuals who are our brother’s keeper. The 2nd Amendment is the watchman of our Civil Rights and Liberties. An important component of The 2nd Amendment is being a deterrent, more so than a defense of the same. This is the very reason that a strong deterrent and defense is the best pathway to peace, freedom, and liberty, instead of the other way around. This was what President Ronald Reagan meant by ‘Peace through Strength.’
