Preflight Checklist for Healthier Skin- In Aviation, We Perform a Preflight to Ensure the Safe Condition of Our Aircraft prior to Takeoff
Just like pilots and aviators who perform a preflight, it is essential that we also do a preflight check on the status of our health that includes the three main points- Our Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose, and our Cholesterol Levels. These all can be checked on a regular basis to provide a safeguard for improving your overall health, even the health and condition of one’s skin.
WHEN and WHAT we eat has a major impact, not only on our general health, but the health for an age-defying skin that doesn’t define our age, but can actually defy our age. In the feature image, I’m 65 years old, about ready to take a business trip.
Like the preflight that we in aviation perform, you can perform a similar routine check of your skin for spots, like moles that change in color, size, and shape. I had a spot removed at my beltline that became inflamed and very painful by the medical staff at Mississippi Center for Plastic Surgery in October of 2022, before my business trip in the image above. This surgical procedure was done in their offices under a local.
This procedure was so minimal to my sense of awareness that Dr. Steckler and I discussed our careers and various aircraft that we enjoyed flying and our favorite destinations to travel to. Plastic surgeons are so highly trained that there is little to no scarring from their incisions. I would highly recommend the MISSISSIPPI CENTER for PLASTIC SURGERY!
The Biggest Impact that You can have on Your Skin is Your Lifestyle
We need sunlight; but we need to be conscious of overexposure to sunlight and by applying sunscreen, wearing long sleeves, and a hat with a brim to protect our skin. Pilots and aviators depend on sunglasses with a high UVA and UVB protection above 90 percent. Aviator sunglasses improve our visibility, no doubt, but the best role aviators play is protecting the delicate skin around the eyes.
We carry the same Aviator sunglasses that are issued to the U.S. Military that make great gifts:
Working on Protecting Our Skin and Defying our Age
Protecting our skin is just part of the role that we can play in the health and condition of our skin. The biggest role that we can play in the condition, health, and young appearance of our skin is DIET/EXERCISE. Strong muscles produce stronger, firmer, and youthful-looking skin.
There are what are called Fibroblast Natural Growth Hormone receptors that are connective tissue just under the skin that releases collagen and growth hormones. What exercise does for your muscles, exercises also does for your skin to repair, tone, and firm up your skin for that younger-looking skin. So fitness allows us to drop weight, but even more important, years off the appearance of our skin.
The biggest impact that you can have on the health and the youthful appearance of your skin is WHEN to eat. Don’t underestimate the importance of when you should eat. We should ALL eat between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for the biggest skincare routine we can have, followed by WHAT to eat (foods that have a Health Index at or below a HI of 3.25).
Diet and Exercise are the Unsung Heroes of Skincare
Diet Component- I dropped 52- Lbs. of weight and 9.00- inches off my waistline within 9- months, with half being dropped within eight (8) weeks of starting my diet on November 28, 2014. I dropped so much weight that I started modeling my line of sportswear, even at the age of 65.
The WHEN factor is huge, because it enables your body to naturally repair and rejuvenate your skin at night while you are sleeping. Eating past 5 p.m. interrupts this natural repairing and rejuvenating process of the skin. I started seeing results even at age 57 in the health of my skin, within three weeks after starting my diet of WHEN and WHAT.
Exercise Component- There are three components to your fitness that should include Cardio and Aerobics training at least three times a week for 25- minutes. But one component that people often miss is strength training for strong muscles for a strong immune system and for stronger, younger-looking skin.
Lifestyle Component– Keep active, as the body is made to move and the more we move, the healthier you are. Attending sporting events is a great way to jumpstart our mental and physical health with friends.
I have included my DIET, EXERCISES, and LIFESTYLE in my new book THE DELPHI DIET & CAST FITNESS System that is on KINDLE. This link below will take you to my book on KINDLE:
