AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE

From the Kerosene Cowboy’s SPORTS PAGE

This was taken at a barrel racing and cutting tournament last month at age 67. I credit my health and fitness to my MELIORA DIET & FITNESS Program that I followed since November 28th, 2014 after my hip replacement.

Unexpected Advantage of My Health/Fitness: We usually think of our health/Fitness in terms of our appearance, wearing our favorite apparel. We usually don’t think that someday our life might very well depend of our health and fitness

NOTE: For those that tried to access my website last week, but were unable to, we were upgrading our site last week, thanks for your patience. We are also launching a NEW website called: age defying lifestyle.com

For those preparing for the Holidays Celebrations, I have attached our ACE Guide to our Bakery’s Pumpkin Pie Recipe, that includes the step-by-step guide for perfect crust. This recipe calls for Libby’s Pumpkin puree, and not Libby’s Pumpkin Pie Mix. You want to be able to control the sugar content in the pie. HAPPY HOLIDAYS from ACE SPORTSWEAR! In sporting events, like football and one of my favorites sports, Rodeo, an athlete can incur injuries of various types that can sideline them and their ability to participate in their activity. In regard to recovery, a lot of attention is placed on physical rehabilitation with little consideration given to the athlete’s health and fitness in training.

I have worked out since I was 12 years old, playing football, as fullback in high school, including entering the military service during my senior year of high school. I still workout based on the Army’s Boot Camp Drill Exercise that I did during my basic training. The only thing that I do now is instead of running two miles per day, I now ride my bicycle 12- miles per day along with calisthenics and strength training that I did during my basic training.

My Medical Situation that Sideline Me

I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Prostate Cancer back back in November of 2023. My current health and fitness played a key factor in my recovery within weeks instead of taking months from being diagnosed with my Cancer and having surgery, this was one of my biggest challenges in my life.

A routine PSA Test indicated that I had Stage 2 Prostate Cancer in November. Prostate Cancer challenges every fiber of my body, mind, and soul, including maintaining my health, and fitness. This was more challenging even compared to four knee surgeries and a hip replacement that I had that cause me to have a medical discharge.

Guys, Prostate health is nothing to take lightly, because Prostate Cancer can metastasize (spread to other organs) that will require radical treatments, including chemo and radiation, and further surgeries. I encourage you to get your PSA Test done during your routine physical for those over the age of 40. My PSA Test saved my life, my PSA was 6.2 (normal is at or below 4.0)!

My Health & Fitness Reduced my Rehab time

One of the first side effects after a Prostatectomy (removal of the Prostate) is incontinence, which in my case started in February 2024 of my surgery. But this is where my health, fitness, and my post workout routine actually helped address my incontinence in weeks instead of taking months to address. In some cases, incontinence can even take up to a year to treat and stop.

My post workout routine of an Ice Plunge

Part of my Post Workout Routine is taking a Cold Plunge (submerged up to my neck in 55 deg F. water temperature for 15- minutes) to address my sore joints and muscles after my 45- minute Boot Camp Workout. I perform my workout six-days a week. I was able to start back in mid-March on my workout six weeks after my surgery. My workout and the Cold plunges helped strengthen and contract three key muscles– the detrusor, bulbocavernosus, and ischiocavernosus muscles. Within three- days, I was able to completely stop my incontinence totally within three days.

NOTE: If you have never taken a cold plunge before, please start with just cold tap water temperature until you get acclimated to cooler temperatures; but don’t drop the temperature below 55 degrees Fahrenheit or exceed 15- minutes duration. Also work your way up to 15- minutes gradually.

If you are getting toward retirement, a great second career is a trade that you can pick up at a trade school like I did preparing to retire. A trade is just as important as a fitness routine is to your health.

I was also able to return to my normal active lifestyle that includes golfing, welding, aviation, rodeo, and working on my farm by May of 2024.

The Second Side Effect of Prostatectomy

In some cases, after a major surgery, there can be an impact to a person’s nervous system where they can develop neuropathy. Neuropathy is the tightness in the calves, numbness to the bottom of the feet, and balance issues. I had a minor case of neuropathy after my hip surgery in October of 2014, but my neuropathy got significantly worse after my Prostatectomy, after March of 2024.

I have reduced the impact of neuropathy symptoms with particular yoga poses that I call my toe jam, or the Cow Pose focusing on the toes, shown below. I also perform a Warrior Pose 3 for balance and rowing exercise.

An additional exercise that I performed with my routine workout is a rowing and a lateral pull exercises where I use a resistance tubing that is anchored to the floor of my gym. You can also use as an anchor point the bottom of a door on the hinge side and use a bench or stool to sit and follow the illustration below. This is where I perform my bench presses:

These exercises has allowed me to get back into my normal routine that includes rodeos. But, I wouldn’t want to saddle up a bull, like Fu Manchu, that Tim McGraw sings about in his song entitled Live Like You were Dying.
