THE QATSPY® Yankee Performance Sports Training & Apparel Quarters

I’m wearing my US WINGS® A-2 Leather Flight Jacket while attending a Mississippi State University Football Game with a close friend that invited me to the game on October 30, 2021, between Kentucky and Mississippi State University. What is unique about Mississippi State University is the Air Raid Offense of Coach Mike Leach, Head Football Coach for Mississippi State. The reason I wanted to attend this particular game was that the MSU Baseball Team was going to receive their rings from winning the 2021 College World Series.

The Importance of Sports to Our Health– A Major Part of The DELPHI Age-Defying DIET & FITNESS System is a Sports Incentive-Type of Lifestyle

If the COVID-19 Pandemic proved one thing to us, it is that we are in need of having social interaction with others, and sporting events are a huge part of that social lifestyle. When the SEC Commissioner, Greg Sankey, decided to go ahead with the 2020-2021 SEC Football, Basketball, and especially the Baseball season, it had risks, but the benefits proved to have outweighed those risks. SEC established the roadmap and model to have games that the rest of the country followed.

Even as far back as the ancient Olympics held in Greece, the influence these sporting events had echoed through the known world and centuries to follow. These ancient Olympic games even had a huge influence on the Apostle Paul. Paul particularly referenced the games in his writings on how sports not just impacted our physical lives, but our mental and spiritual lives as well, in 1st Corinthians 9:25-27–

All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should….

That was a huge summation of Sports Psychology pointed out by the Apostle Paul in this one passage. Look at what Paul states– They do it for a winning season that diminishes with time, but the main reason that we do it for a life-changing experience in individuals. For Sports to have a positive impact on our lives as athletes and spectators alike, we need to use sports as a means to improve and enrich our lives.

I recall in June 7, 2015, when I attended LSU’s home baseball game with the Ragin Cajuns when a fly ball was hit in short right field. The right fielder for the Ragin Cajuns made a spectacular diving catch in anyone’s book. The LSU fans responded by applauding the right fielders efforts. That’s what sports is all about in recognizing the effort of players on the field and fans in the stands. Unbelievable sportsmanship demonstrated by fans that appreciate baseball.

Sports Isn’t Just a Social Event

The life-changing experience that people receive as players or spectators is developing relationships with other people from all walks of life. Relationships are a major part of our well-being on all levels of our lives. I still remember going to The Game of The Century with my grandfather and the memories that I still have of that special event. The 1969 game between Texas vs. Arkansas was one of those memories and was  played for the National Championship.

Even though Arkansas lost the National Championship game to Texas, I still have great memories of that day. Even though the loss hurt at the time, I recall more of my grandfather discussing play call selection and how Bill Montgomery executed with his last minute passes in the pocket as quarterback for Arkansas.

As noted in the featured photograph, sporting events bring together a diverse group of people with different backgrounds for a common cause supporting their teams. From tailgating before the game to sharing Bar-B-Que with fans of the other team, this develops bonding and respect.

Sports, like Football games, provide people with the ability to interact with each other over spirited debates of statistics, fundamentals, and formations, and what would be called on the next play. And what would a sporting event be without sporting the fashions of your team colors and logos.

This is our US WINGS® Authentic A-2 Leather Flight Jacket that we supply to the U.S. Military that I have personalized with my company Logo, THE QATSPY® that I customary travel with wearing it as a sports jacket.
Check out our Button-Down (5.5 oz.) Oxfords shirts with my logo for that professional look.

Supporting your team has tremendous benefits associated with it, even just watching a game. These include lowering the risk of depression with improved cognitive function, like the mental workout of just recalling statistics. One improves their cognitive functions from analyzing play calls and recognizing formations on both sides of the ball.

Game analysis is critical, because it allows the person to connect with their subconscious mind. This is because the subconscious mind can’t distinguish between what a person is viewing on the field and what they are actually experiencing, as if in a real life situation.

The 12th Man of Game-Day

The other component that fans can experience is the advantage that the fans give their team with sense of home field advantage. Coach Kirby Smart stated when No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs played The No. 8 Arkansas Razorbacks at Sanford Stadium, with a seating capacity of 92,746, Coach Smart referenced the advantage that their fans gave them during the game.

It is daunting for a visiting team to come onto the field with stadium capacity of over 92,000 fans yelling when you are on offense, trying to call cadence. At Mississippi State University, they have an additional special sound effect, known as cowbells. When Mississippi State Bulldogs Baseball team was at TD Ameritrade Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska this past June, they weren’t permitted to bring their cowbells with them into the stadium while playing Vanderbilt in the 2021 College World Series.

But the Kentucky Wildcats felt the special effects that the cowbells had over the visiting team at Davis Wade Stadium. Kentucky was 5 and 0, coming into that game that Mississippi State won. Being a part of something bigger than you are has a sense of belonging to a common effort.

Also, watching games with others allows you to express your knowledge and expertise of the fundamentals of the game. You develop respect for those around you and that builds your own confidence at the same time. Nothing can replace a person’s confidence in life or sports. Confidence is the best way to address the sense of despair and depression.

This ability to express your option builds language skills by expressing your thoughts and insights. At the game, you learn how to manage distraction, emotions, and focus on key elements of the game.

Lower blood pressure

Your lifestyle has a tremendous amount to do with your blood pressure, and participating in or attending a sporting event can be a major factor in maintaining a healthy blood pressure. Sounds odd, but participating or attending sporting events can actually lower your blood pressure, if you use the following techniques:

Be realistic about your expectations– Sports allows a person to recognize obstacles and difficulties that you or your team will face. If you’ve ever participated in a sport, you know what obstacles athletes face. Golf is an example of this, because a person who never played golf views a golfer making a great golf shot totally different than a seasoned golfer. As an avid fan, you come to appreciate effort and the challenges. You realize in some games that just keeping it close is a win.

Take the time to just Relax– Tailgating and other activities, like dinner, leading up to the game can offer rare opportunities to see friends you don’t see but once a year or longer. Just enjoying the past and the present provides an opportunity as fans and athletes bond for a short period of time and relax and enjoy the relationships.

Be Grateful and Appreciate the moment– If you’ve ever attended, or what is even more rare, played in a special game, just appreciating that opportunity to participate as a fan or an athlete is priceless. I made my share of mistakes, both in athletics and in my professional life, but what I learned was to appreciate the learning experience of what I gained that helped me out later in life.

Focus on issues you can control– Stress comes from trying to manage issues that we have very little to no control over or can’t directly affect. We can only control how we respond to adversities and successes, our own actions and reaction, our attitude, how we prepare, how we take advantage of our opportunities, and the perseverance and patience that we exhibit.

If you want to have the biggest influence over your blood pressure, concentrate on your prep work, as this provides confidence that lowers your stress levels.

Focus on health and fitness measures that you can take to lower your blood pressure, and here are just a few I use:

  • Lose weight and watch your waistline. Keep your waistline less than one-half of your height, if not lower.
  • Develop a regular exercise program that includes strength and conditioning, and get involved in a sport as a spectator and as a participant.
  • Eat a healthy diet high in probiotics, protein, and fiber, and limit your intake of glucose (sugars) and sodium (salt).
  • Monitor your blood pressure, either daily or weekly.

Adapt to the Situation– Be flexible and change to address your priorities.

Below is my normal blood pressure that I take nightly without taking any prescribed medication of any type:
