Creating Your Golf Brand to Develop a Classic Golf Swing

Creating a GOLF BRAND for your classic golf swing is one of the most important golf swing fundamentals that the golfer can utilize! The Golf Brand helps to mentally engage the golfer’s subconscious mind by using a mental image, like a Jeep or a pair of boxing gloves. The boxing gloves are a critical golf swing technique to properly set the wrist action in the golf swing sequence. How the hands are placed on the club and the how the golfer Syncs/Presets the wrist action in the golf swing directly affect the success and results of the golf shot. The orientation of the hands and how the wrists are integrated with each other determine the quality and consistency of your golf shot. This was mentioned in my YouTube golf swing video, https://youtu.be/ZGVNrIw_wlo

01BoxingGlovesSynchProtractHow the golfer places their hands on the handle of the club helps to integrate the wrists with the rest of their body, which is a significant golf swing technique not to be overlooked. It is a difference between a weak slice and a powerful, down the middle golf shot, with a slight draw. The terms CAM-OVER and CAM used in my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach, help the golfer to understand how the wrists are used as a Dual hinge in the JUCO golf swing technique by simply Syncing/Presetting the golfer’s wrists.

Pronation, or CAMMING-OVER, and naturally supinating, or CAMMING, allow the golfer to use two of the strongest and most dexterous muscles in the wrists that have direct contact with the handle of the golf club. The CAM-OVER and CAM allow the right elbow, for the right-handed golfer, to synch with the shoulders to sync and coil the upper and lower body, or low Threshold muscles.

This Sync/Preset wrist action in the golf swing allows the golfer to efficiently transfer power and speed through impact. A great example to Sync/Preset the wrist action in the golf swing is by using a pair of boxing gloves. The actual wrists are just below the wristbands on the boxing gloves. The wrist isn’t where one would wear their wristwatch. This is the lower forearm. The wrists are made up of two of the strongest muscles that have direct contact with the handle of the club, called Thenars. The Thenars (Hypothenar and Thenar) are an important link between the dexterous hands and the powerful forearms.

Syncing/Presetting the Thenars Using the JUCO Golf Swing Technique

Think about these two Thenar muscles as an important golf swing technique to Sync/Preset the golfer’s left and right elbows. Presetting these two Thenars in each wrist keeps the hands and forearms linked and synchronized with each other and working as a unit, instead of separately. These Thenars also help the golfer establish two significant muscles in the lower forearm, the Pronator Quadratus and Brachio-Radialis muscle and the Palmaris Longus Tendon. These muscles and tendons establish the golfer’s Critical Swing Path.

The Brachio-radialis muscle is unique because of how it works in the golf swing. The Brachio-radialis muscle can pronate, supinate the wrists and forearm, and flex (bend) the forearm at the elbow during the takeaway swing. These three movements are key in the golfer’s golf swing and the batter’s baseball swing.

These two muscles, Hypothenar and Thenar, are pads at the base of the hand. Because the Thenars (Hypothenar and Thenar) are the largest and strongest muscles in the hand that have direct contact with the handle of the club and should cause the golfer to take notice of the Thenars. These two muscles are the critical muscles responsible for transferring the power from the upper and lower body and forearms to the handle of the club. This should have the golfer’s attention. CAMMING-OVER and CAMMING the wrists place the hands/wrists into the LOCK position, noted in the Figure below to the right. This helps the golfer understand how the CAM-OVER and CAM technique works, using the ESPY Golf Swing technique.

Golf, like baseball, is 90 percent mental, or muscle memory, and as Yogi Berra put it, “The other half is physical.” The golfer has to develop a means to engage their mental game or muscle memory. The subconscious mind, the golfer’s swing coach, is where your performance is derived. If the golfer can develop a Golf Brand, the golfer has a better chance of taking advantage of their very own golf swing coach.

The JEEP OIIIIIO Golf Swing Technique to Simplify the Golf Swing

A great means to engage this tremendous resource, the subconscious mind as the golfer’s golf swing coach, is a grill of a jeep. I personally use The JEEP TECH OIIIIIO on the golf course. The Jeep TECH is a mental photo of the Jeep’s grill, shown above. I let the bumper represent my left thumb and the handle of the club. The right and left headlights represent the Hypothenar and Thenar on the left and right hand. The fins on the grill represent my fingers on my hands. The right thumb, for a right-handed golfer, represents the clubface that is the steering wheel of the Jeep. This allows my subconscious mind, my golf swing coach, to pair up the wrists/hands to preset the CAM-OVER and CAM elements of the golf swing.

This technique eliminates a huge distraction in Syncing/Presetting and executing the golf shot with power, speed, and control. As noted in the time-lapse photography of comparing the golf swing vs. the baseball swing, the wrists in both swings are in a very strong position called the PRESET, right before impact. To achieve this Sync/Preset position right before impact, the golfer wants to preset their wrists just by CAMMING-OVER the left Thenars and naturally CAMMING the right Thenars, so that 80 percent of my golf swing sequence is set up with these two simple and short maneuvers.

Remember the first principle of John Wooden’s playbook states that, Success is all about little things done correctly. Never underestimate the significance of something as small as integrating the Thenars, thumbs, and wrists in the golf swing and in the baseball swing. These are the bare knuckle facts of the golf swing. YOU CAN’T MISS WITH THIS!

Because Golf is Mental, Played Between the Ears, This is an Advantage to the Golfer

Some might consider, since golf, like baseball, is 90 percent mental, that this is a disadvantage. Nothing could be further from the truth. Since golf is mental, it gives the average golfer a significant advantage of using their own golf swing coach, their subconscious mind. Even working at your desk or workstation, the average golfer can continue to drill on three simple elements of SYNCH, PRESET, and YAW into your subconscious mind, the golfer’s swing coach.

A great subconscious exercise is called word association, or Command & Respond. A great example of this, Command & Respond, was a story I had the pleasure of covering, while performing my Xerox Box Golf Research Project for my book. I was able to interview Colonel George Robert Hall, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, about 80 miles south of where I live. Col. Hall was a POW for over seven years at the infamous Hanoi Hilton in North Vietnam.

He survived and maintained his sanity and his four handicap by mentally, or virtually, playing Pebble Beach every day in his head. Six weeks after his release, Colonel Hall shot his handicap of four (4) at the Greater New Orleans P.O.W. Pro-Am. For the rest of his story, to see more of my interview, please select Col. Hall’s name in the above paragraph.

A Recommendation for your Golf Game:

I would like to recommend an interesting radio program that I regularly listen to from my home state Arkansas on my I-Heart Radio app on KARN 102.9 FM station, out of Little Rock, AR. They air a golf show called Arkansas Fairways and Greens, at 7:00 AM CT each Saturday morning, hosted by Bob Steel, and co-hosted by Jay Fox and Charles Crowson. Bob occasionally as has his guess Alex Myers with Golf Digest and Ron Sirak with Golf Channel. I was interviewed on his show about my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach. This show is worth tuning into for golf news and information.

Jay Fox is an Administrator with Arkansas State Golf Association that discuss amateur golf and rules of the game.
