Rough Rider Post Strait Oxford & Blues– Cowboy Hat, Boots, Button-Down Oxford, Blue Jeans, the American Distinctive Classics for all Occasion

I have a friend that’s a sportscaster on WJTV-12 here in Jackson, Mississippi and he does the Sports Zone every show on Sunday night following their newscast. He was out on assignment and didn’t get back in time to change his blue jeans. He went on with his blue jeans, jacket, and tie. He opened up by apologizing for his blue jeans.

The next time that we talked, I told him to never apologize for the TRUE BLUE American Classic of Oxford and Blue Jeans. I told him about an article that I read way back in 1983, entitled The Country Gentleman Look of Blue Jeans and Oxford. Then I explained that I travel on business, meeting clients wearing my blue jeans, with or without a tie, and my Leather Flight Jacket. Never apologize for wearing what is the George Strait American Classics. How can you go wrong with George Strait?

The George Strait American Classics

I have been a fan of George Strait for decades, and hate that he retired from performing publicly. But who can forget that Southwest look of starched button-down Oxford shirt, blue jeans, Cowboy hat, and boots? The only thing that I have added in my attire is my A-2 Leather Flight Jacket as my sports jacket for business or leisure wear. I don’t leave home without my Leather Jacket, especially when riding the open road or flying in the open sky.

In the background is a P-51-D Mustang that is in our hangar that still remains a number ONE fighter of all times even compared to modern-day jet fighters. In the foreground is my INDIAN Scout Bobber Twin-V 60 Motorcycle that I enjoy riding since I’m retired from line work.

I have been wearing this style (of starched button-down Oxford shirt, blue jeans, Cowboy hat and boots) since the early 80’s, when I worked as a Grid Engineer with a Utility Company in the southeast part of the country. One reason for this attire was that I had no idea what each day held.

This was a job in the Delta part of Mississippi near Oxford, Mississippi. The crane in the background is a 70 Ton Mantis Crane that can handle the buckshot clay in the Delta area of Mississippi.

I could be in a meeting, then have to leave there and go straight to be in the field, or catch an aerial patrol flight for a line outage. I did, at times, have to add a tie from time-to-time for meetings with business leaders and/or at corporate headquarters. The last, adding a tie, I found to be a waste of time trying to educate execs what our core business was. I consider myself the sergeants of your company having to get the job done, NO EXCUSES! You might have experienced this in your job– We had a office support staff that constantly inform us the reason why we can’t do something, I informed him that they didn’t pay us to find ways not to do our jobs; but they pay us to figure out HOW!

Keeping Up Appearances

Blue jeans and leather sports jacket, like we are wearing in the featured photograph, also keeps you from having to run to the dry cleaners on a regular basis. I do my own starching of my Oxford shirts and iron them weekly, great way to watch sports. Starched shirts resist dirt and grime better than not having your shirts starched. Starched shirts also keep their shape better during the day.

I don’t know what it is about blue jeans, but they are significantly more comfortable than khakis are. To me, blue jeans wear better and keep their shape and stand up to the wear-and-tear of the day better. The starched button-down Oxford shirt, long sleeves of course, with cowboy boots and hat adds that charisma for business or leisure wear. You’re always are in style with the Cowboy Hat, Boots, Button-Down Oxford, and Blue Jeans, the American Distinctive Classics. We have a Mississippi Agriculture Commissioner, Andy Gipson, that wear a Cowboy Hat everywhere he travels.

This goes for you ladies, just as well

To me, this type of attire had that esquire look, style, and feel of that country gentleman or lady look. You can’t beat it, regardless of where your day takes you.

And as George Strait states in his song There’s a Difference between Living and Living Well! That song is one of my favorite George Strait songs. Another great song of George Strait’s is: Check Yes or No.

There are two perfect combinations, consisting of sports and sportswear; and I get to write about and enjoy both of them. Just like the George Strait song states, There’s a difference between living and living well, and your health and fitness helps you do both. Get involved in keeping fit and active. It is being proven that your fitness is your best natural immune system. If I could give some advice to people it is to keep active and sports is a great avenue to do so both watching and participating.

People need to approach their health and fitness like their life depends on these; because in actuality it does.

I met this sportscaster when I gave him some golf tips on his golf game when he was filming playing the Toughness Hole Challenge at various golf courses around Mississippi. I did some spots on the Spots Zone leading up to the 2021 US OPEN.
