Observing A-2 Leather Flight Jacket’s 90th Year- May 9, 1931 U.S. Military adopted the A-2 Leather Flight Jacket as its Standard Flight Jacket

There is nothing that is more synonymous that was worn during World War II by the U.S. Army Air Corp, WASP, and elite Airborne Units than the A-2 Leather Flight Jacket. There are very few items that have a longer service life than the A-2 Leather Flight Jacket that has changed very little since its adoption on May 9, 1931 by the U.S. Military. That’s 90 years that an A-2 Leather Flight Jacket resembles the original Leather Flight Jacket that was issued to the Greatest Generation.

This photograph was taken at The College of the Ozarks in Hollister, Missouri, off Hwy 65, where they support our U.S. Military and Veterans. This Jeep is on display in their Keeter Center Museum. When you are visiting College of the Ozarks, don’t pass up the Ralph Foster Museum on the campus of Hard Work U.

  

Not even the iconic Jeep that went into service in 1941 has that long of a service record than the A-2 Leather Flight Jacket. Its durability and service are unmatchable and are still hanging in closets that are considered heirlooms by families. Such is my case, where I still have my uncle’s A-2 Leather Flight Jacket from when he served with the 101st Airborne during World War II.

If I’m not mistaken, Mark Harmon was wearing the Indiana Jones-Style Leather Jacket last night (25May2021) in the season finale of NCIS where he was on the dock talking to the reporter about the boat that was docked there. I couldn’t get a good look at the back of the jacket for the belt, but the collar and pockets on the front of the jacket was the same.
