The QATSPY® Yankee Palmer Papers

NEW Monthly Paper! The QATSPY® Yankee Palmer Papers, A Look at Sports from an In-depth, Pragmatic Perspective of Awareness and Perseverance
Starting on September 17, 2020, THE QATSPY® will be publishing my personal papers from my grandfather’s training notes that I have put together over the past 48 years. One of the best resource for Sports Psychology still remains God’s Word. This is not just from a Layman’s point of view or from my personal interpretation of scriptures, but delving into God’s Word and allowing the Bible to reveal its own interpretation and guidance into God’s Word and how His Word can work in us.
Creating a Purpose for Maintaining Your Health and Fitness
A passage that is tied directly to our purpose of and for training is 1st Corinthians 9:26
Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;
One of the biggest obstacles that athletes have to overcome isn’t necessary external issues, but internal issues. The athlete has to realize what their natural capabilities are, and the athlete has to have an incentive and purpose in order to develop their natural capabilities. If you’re trying to get in shape and don’t have an incentive or a purpose, your odds on accomplishing your goal are severally stack against you right off the bat, even before you start. You have to create a incentive and purpose to achieve your goals. Just stating you want to lose weight or get into shape isn’t good enough!
Being active in sports like golf, tennis, basketball, racquetball, swimming, cycling, boxing, hiking, martial arts, and running, just to name a few create the purpose for maintaining your health and fitness.
A passage that allow us to unlock our capabilities, both on and off the field, is our faith and the authority to unlock these natural capabilities. This passage is located in Matthew 16:19-
And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you lock on earth will be locked in heaven, and whatever you unlock on earth will be unlocked in heaven.
Let me mention a major issue in sports, the biggest opponent the athlete will have to face, on and off the field, isn’t their opponent, but the athlete themselves.
In my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach in Sections 5.4 and 5.5
5.4 If God’s Word were presented in terms of true grit and sportsmanship, there would be no limit to what a person could accomplish in life, both on and off the field with true grit (faith and perseverance) and sportsmanship (integrity). In most organized sports, sportsmanship is included as part of the athlete’s curriculum. Sportsmanship includes such characteristics as humility, integrity, commitment, perseverance, respect, honor, honesty, fairness, sacrifice, responsibility, preparation, discipline, trustworthiness, and a hard work ethic, to just name a few KEYS.
5.5 True grit, with sportsmanship, is easier for most people to grasp and understand than terms like faith and integrity. Sportsmanship centers on athletes taking responsibility for their own actions. When athletes take responsibility for their actions, the separation between perception and reality closes. The athlete starts searching internally for the keys they possess. True grit is being able to exhibit the quiet strength of perseverance, self- reliance, confidence, and integrity to use these keys.
5.5.1 Athletes understand that confidence is derived from the quiet strength of faith, referenced in Isaiah 30:15: In quietness and confidence shall be your strength. Keep in mind that more can be learned from a loss or failure than from a win, especially if the lesson from the loss is used to build confidence and gain experience.
Jesus mentioned the word Keys in Matthews 16:19 referring to as our abilities, in that we already have the potential and authority to lock the door on your Achilles’ heel (or limitation) and unlock your confidence (attributes). The door that we can lock are on our doubt, pride, jealousy, fear, and anxiety.
The real key is that we already posses these and we just have to open the door and access these capabilities to develop our health, fitness, peace of mind, rest, and prosperity in all that we do.
Pay close attention in further Yankee Palmer’s Papers to two words, Rest and Peace, as these are key to opening our doors, on and off the field.
