Life After Prostate Cancer 02Nov2023: You don’t go through Stage 2 Prostate Cancer without encountering some issues after your Battle. A couple positive results (1) I’m alive/healthy (2) I can have Dark Chocolate (1) Negative- Neuropathy

Your body undergoes changes after Prostate Cancer– But Nothing a guy can’t handle, especially with the Grace of God if we eat a healthy diet, maintain our fitness, and have an active age-defying lifestyle.

I’m here alive for three reasons: (1) By the Grace of God, first and foremost (2) My PSA Test that caught my Cancer early, and (3) a Skilled surgeon, Dr. Mark Runnels, at Jackson, Mississippi Urology.

I can’t stress it enough guys to get your PSA Test done during your annual physical for those over the age of 40. My PSA reading was 6.2 (where a normal reading is at or below 4.0). That’s correct alpha male guys, I did state having my PSA Test perform during my annual physical, that is a part of your blood workup. That means guys to GO GET YOUR annual physical, this is not just for yourself, but for the people that count on you in their lives. Just Remember- It Is a Wonderful Life!

Just because you are an alpha male guy, that you are tough, believe me Prostate Cancer is tougher.

Combat Engineers assembling a pontoon bridge to cross the Tigris River with Mechanized infantry under sniper fire.

I enlisted into the U.S. ARMY right out of high school in 1978 with my best friend (Donovan Briley) and I selected the Combat Engineers Unit, 12-Bravo. My friend Briley went into the Rangers.

I still work out every day in my gym even now at 67 that I did during my service time. I also worked 35- years as a Grid Engineer with Entergy Mississippi in Transmission Lines with linemen until I retired at the age of 57. Believe me guys, linemen work is tough work, but again, cancer is even tougher when you are talking about your life. I’m the one on the cross arm in the middle.

Listen to Your Body

In September of 2023, my blood pressure started to elevate significantly, that caused me to move up my annual physical from December back to October of 2023. I take my blood pressure every night before bedtime, like everyone should; because it tells you a lot about your health and fitness even what you should and shouldn’t eat. I eat Kosher!

Guys, you have to listen to what your body is telling you and take action, don’t procrastinate, you’re only talking about your life. By moving my annual physical back to October of 2023, I actually saved my life!

Here’s why I’m glad that I moved my physical back to October, from December of 2023 when I had my biopsy that indicated that I had Stage 1 Prostate Cancer to later in February of 2024 when I had a Prostatectomy (removal of my Prostate). My cancer progressed to Stage 2 in less than two months. If you want to have your life to be turned upside down, just be told you have Cancer.

Following Checkups of my Prostate Cancer

Since my Prostatectomy in February 2024, my past three checkups (March, June, and September of 2024) indicate that I’m clear of my cancer, Thank God.

The Advantage of having a Health & Fitness Program

Advantage of my Fitness Routine after my Prostatectomy- Part of my fast recovery was due to my post workout routine, after my cancer, I took cold plunges to address my sore joints, muscles, and to tighten my skin before my cancer diagnose. But, that wasn’t all that cold plunges did, it actually helped me stop my incontinence, a side effect of a Prostatectomy. Within two weeks, I stopped my incontinence that usually takes up to 3 months to a year to do.

I must add a note to this image, I didn’t take into account of Fall Temperatures where the water was 12 degrees F cooler. That made my water temperature after 30 pounds of ice be 45 degrees. I DO NOT RECOMMEND 45 deg F water temperature.

CAUTION– If you hadn’t done cold plunges before, FIRST start with just cold tap water out of the faucet temperatures until you get acclimated to cooler temperatures, BUT DO NOT GO BELOW 55 degrees Fahrenheit for more than 15- minutes. One other thing cold temperatures does is it turns white fat cells into brown fat cells that your body can burn more readily.

Upside to my Prostatectomy

Before my Prostatectomy, I was highly allergic to dark chocolate for someone that worked in my grandfather’s bakery for 10 years. After my Prostatectomy, I can now have 72% dark chocolate that is an excellent appetite suppressant and has other nutrition benefits for your heart health, cognitive function, and levelizes sugar levels.

Now for the Downside

You do have certain functions that are impaired that can return in some cases between eight to 12- months after your surgery. Here’s another side effect of Prostate Cancer, you can develop neuropathy which results in tight and discomfort of the legs and especially the calves, with numbness on the bottom of the feet. You can even have neuropathy with knee and hip replacement surgery. I do relief exercises for my neuropathy along with my regular 60- minute workout.

Boxing bag workout also address Parkinson’s Disease and other cognitive function issues. That one reason it work very well with my treatment for neuropathy. 9- minutes on the bag and you are worn out.

Holistic Approach to your Body

One night while watching my PITT football team play, I got back adding some apple cider vinegar to my iced water, like for flavoring, like adding lemon to water. Within a couple of hours after drinking my glass of iced water with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, my symptoms of neuropathy subsided to where the neuropathy was very-very slightly to almost negligible.

People have reported as I have that we receive benefits from adding Apple Cider Vinegar to drinks, but the medical field have not established such benefits medically. If it works add a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar to your drinks. If there not benefit stop adding Apple Cider Vinegar to drinks.

Something that I recommend everyone do right before they retire go take VOTECH College classes for a trade that you can develop into your second career after your retire. Gals this is just much for you even welding. This is me in my welding shop welding a mounting bracket onto a neighbor’s Jeep for a winch.

I’m able to even get back playing golf, working longer hours in my welding shop and on my farm, and get back into the cockpit. Up until then, my balance, discomfort, and numbness were issues.
