The Yellowstone Papers was a paper my grandfather started in 1927 while visiting Yellowstone National Park. He was a coach and enjoyed sports. I took his unfinished work and completed it into a book to help people achieve their best performance in their life, including their Health and Fitness.

Your Yellowstone PREMIER Sports Performance– to help Achieve Your New Year’s Resolutions to Lose Weight, Get into better Shape & Healthier. Develop a Purpose, Reason, Execution, Metric Incentive, Expectations , Results 4 Your Resolutions

If you made two of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions, to lose weight and get into better shape, I would like to provide you with an incentive and a process to continue your efforts. At this time, however, 75 percent of the people are thinking about abandoning their Resolutions. Before you throw in the towel, let me give you a PREMIER process to achieve your objectives for the long term. PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP on your New Year’s Resolutions!

I enjoy reading the writings of THE greatest COACH ever, or The Apostle Paul, especially where he is writing about two sports consisting of track/field and boxing that takes a tremendous amount of conditioning and training to do. I am all too aware of each sport from my own past in the U.S. Army and now working out in my home GYM.

IMPORTANT NOTE: About boxing, it isn’t how hard you can throw a punch that matters, but how hard of a punch you can take and get up and continue to compete that matters. Same with weight lost, sports performance, or in business. This is WHY Sports should be the center piece of any education program, even homeschool programs.

Here is my reference to the Apostle Paul, one of the best coaches for LIFE:

1 Corinthians 9:26-27

(26) So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air, like shadow boxing. (27) But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others, I myself should be disqualified.

As part of my workout, I working out on a boxing bag for 9- minutes, it is a challenge to complete my workout over 45- minutes at age 66. I want the challenge where I can continue to work on my farm, in my welding shop, and coaching/playing golf.

7.1     The term PREMIER is a method to pursuit sports, conditioning, fitness, and in business. For those training to lose weight and get into better shape, as well as, for the athlete training and conditioning for competition, PREMIER is essential process. In all these cases, you will have to establish a well-defined Purpose, Reason, Execution plan, Metric, Incentive, Expectations, and Results if you are to succeed:

7.2     A person applying The PREMIER process to their training and conditioning will provide the athlete or person an avenue to reach their goal. If your objective is just to lose weight and get into better shape, your odds are stack against you without an effective process. To achieve success your chances are significantly better if you establish the following PREMIER perimeters:

·        Purpose– Training and conditioning require a well-defined purpose for motivation. The purpose can’t be just because I want to lose weight or to get into better shape. You’ll lose your momentum before you even start in earnest. This is due to the lack of purpose, target, or time frame established, and no method of tracking or purpose set. I got my purpose after a photograph that was taken after an interview I had at an ESPN Radio Station. If you want a purpose have a photograph taken of you, showing your abdominal area, and hang it up where you can see it each and every day. A photograph is a great motivator.

Example– My purpose was that I was retiring in June of 2015 to start a sports performance and apparel business; and I needed to lose 45- pounds of weight that I had gained, leading up to my hip replacement surgery in October of 2014. I was to produce golf and fitness videos where I was the instructor. If you’ve ever been in front of the camera, you realize how unforgiving and scrutinizing the camera lens can be. It is the toughest critic and perspective that you will ever have on your health and fitness. Below is one of my training videos followed by my MACS FITNESS Program

·         Reason– Will be a significant part of your motivation as well to have the staying power to follow through with your Resolutions objectives. The reason will justify the hard work that you are putting into achieve the objectives. A purpose with a strong reason like in this case to conditioning and train to improve your health, fitness, and performance. I use health and fitness as an example because without a doubt these two objectives required just as much the motivation than any other issue.

 ·         Execution– An effective plan to execute will be your biggest advantage in providing you a pathway and confidence to reach your objectives. This is where your research is needed to develop a plan that will provide results and will determine your future success. You heard it many times before- People don’t plan to fail; they just fail to plan. Waste of time and effort are the major factors in failures, especially New Year’s Resolutions. It doesn’t matter what your objectives are, but develop a step-by-step plan with reasonable metrics. The more specific and detailed your plan is the better. With the availability of WORD programs write out your game plan and print it to read.

·        Metrics and Incentives– Reasonable Metrics is where you will start seeing results or lack thereof to make adjustments to your plan. There is no plan that is put in place that you will see the need to make some adjustments to for better performance. Tracking your progress will provide checkpoints to motivate you and to provide incentives to you to maintain your efforts like no other method, like for your fitness and training. Some view metrics as a negative, but it can be used as encouragement to incentivize your hard work. There is nothing like see incremental improvement.

Example: A healthy reasonable metrics for losing weight is one-quarter- (1/4) inch per week. I needed to lose 7.75- inches. A healthy waistline is determined by taking your height in inches and divide by 2. This is a great Rule of Thumb to check your BMI!

My height is 66- inches so my waistline should be 66 / 2 = 33- inches. But since I was going to be in front of the camera I used a 2.2 denominator; so 66 / 2.2 = 30- inch waistline. My waist was 37.75- inches on November 28th, 2014.

So my long-term objective was to lose 7.75 / 0.25 = over 31 weeks. My objective was to lose 7.75- inches by July 03rd, 2015 to have a 30- inch waistline.

The biggest encouragement for me was when I measured my waistline each week not as a negative but as an incentive to determine my progress based on weekly results. Refer to my actual Waistline Chart, below. I started my MELIORA DIET & FITNESS Program on November 28, 2014, and I listed my Milestones each week to reach my Objective by July 03rd, 2015.

·         Expectations – It is one thing to use in order to reach your objective, but it is a totally different challenge to maintain your objective over 31- weeks, whether that is fitness, sports, or business performance. We all have seen people lose weight and then not be able to keep the weight off, or someone reach a level of performance and not be able to maintain that level of performance.

Expectations allowed me to compare my progress each week, each month, and over the entire 31- weeks to those intermediate objectives. What you will find out about expectations that you set for yourself or for your team is that you will have a better than average chance of exceeding your expectation as I did if you use metrics.

Recording my waistline results, noted above, I was able to meet my expectation, but also exceed my target with a waistline NOW of 28.50- inches, going on NOW for nine years. My boxing bag photograph, above, was taken July 02nd, 2022, seven (7) years after I reached a 28.50- inch waistline at age 64.

·        Results– Provides you confidence that is required in every endeavor whether that is losing weight, which is one of the hardest objectives to achieve in sports, or business performance. There is nothing like results that can replace one’s confidence and perseverance. Confidence achieved in one challenge sets the stage for future successes in other challenges. If you use the PRIMER structure, nothing will be difficult for you to achieve inch-by-inch.

7.3     For those wondering approximately how much weight in pounds that I lost, here’s the conversion factor- every inch in the waistline that you lose represents approximately 5.75 pounds. Following the MELIORA DIET and FITNESS Program, I lost 52- pounds within 32- weeks and have kept the weight off at age 66.

7.4     I’ll let you be the judge if PRIMER and The MELIORA DIET & FITNESS worked, or NOT? You can’t escape the camera lens’ scrutiny, the camera will be your worst critic, it is more critical than the human eye is! 7.5     The above photograph was taken in our hangar as a part of a photoshoot taken on October 19th, 2023 that we did for our G-1 Leather Bomber Jacket that the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, and U.S. Coast Guard use. Following The MELIORA DIET & FITNESS Program, I dropped something that I wasn’t expecting to drop, I dropped about three (3) decades off the age of my skin and condition.
