THE QATSPY® Quapaw Aviation Outfitters is proud to offer the US WINGS® Cooper AVG Flying Tigers G-1 Cape Buffalo Leather Flight Jacket
THE QATSPY® Outfitters is proud to offer the US WINGS® Cooper Flying Tigers G-1 Cape Buffalo Leather Flight Jacket. Cape Buffalo that is luxurious as it is the toughest leather in the world. This flight jacket is based on the same flight jacket worn by the American Volunteer Group (AVG) based in Burma to help fly air support to help defend the China against Japan. The pilots flew the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk with shark’s teeth painted on the nose of the P-40 that has become an iconic symbol of the Flying Tigers.
The American Volunteer Group (AVG) was made up of pilots from the U.S. Army Air Corps, Navy, and Marine Corps to help defend Burma. The Japanese wanted to expand into Burma for its natural resources to support Japanese war efforts. The reason that both the A-2 and G-1 Leather Flight Jackets are associated with the Flying Tigers is that the pilots flying the P-40 Warhawk were from the U.S. Army Air Corps that wore the A-2 style flight jacket while the Navy and Marine Pilots wore the G-1 style jacket.
The Flying Tigers flight group was made up of three (3) fighter squadrons with approximately 30- P-40 Warhawk Aircraft per squadron. The American Volunteer Group (AVG) was the first American’s to see combat just days after Pearl Harbor was bombed and war was declared by the United States on Japan. The Flying Tigers brought inspiration to a very despairing time during the early stages of World War II where we were fighting an uphill battle.
These pilots of the AVG developed on-the-fly-type aerial combat tactics forged in aerial combat action during this early part of World War II. This experience provide the textbook for pilots to use later in both the Pacific and European Theaters of War. This was like having a version of TOP GUN school for pilots engaged in aerial combat during WWII. The US WINGS® Original Cooper Sportswear A-2 and G-1 Flying Tiger Cape Buffalo Flight Jackets capture the American Spirit of the P-40, a fighter aircraft with personality, with the shark’s teeth painted on the nose.
Wearing the A-2 or that G-1 Flying Tiger Jacket is a badge of honor for both Americans and Veterans supporting our proud Military. The G-1 jacket signifies over 80 years of history since World War II when these heroic pilots wore this iconic jacket. This Jacket can be personalized with an embossed name tag and the leather patch of the Flying Tiger and with the 14th Air Force commanded by Claire Lee Chennault.
