Taking Indiana Jones’ Bullwhip Technique to the Golf Course
The first Indiana Jones movie was Raiders of the Lost Ark that was released in 1981. There are certain iconic pieces of gear that are associated with the movie that Professor Jones, played by Harrison Ford, used on his adventures around the world to secure certain Archaeological artifacts:
- Leather Flight Jacket
- Fedora hat
- Khaki Pants
- 1917 Smith & Wesson 0.45 Revolver
- The bullwhip
Three key pieces of gear that Indiana Jones carried were his leather flight jacket, fedora, and his bullwhip. I’m an Authorized Dealer for US WINGS® that furnishes the Indiana Jones leather flight jacket to Disney World for their production of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, that is seen by thousands each week.
The other key pieces are Indiana Jones’ fedora and his iconic bullwhip. The bullwhip can actually help the golfer out significantly in creating lag in their golf swing. One of the techniques used by cowboys who drive cattle is the elbow-hand technique to create that pop sound that Indiana Jones made when he snapped his whip.
This same technique can be applied to the golfer’s golf game, just by using the elbows to start the downswing. This technique will automatically create the proper lag in the golfer’s swing by un-cocking and unlocking the wrists and preventing the casting problem that some golfers have. Another advantage for the golfer using the Indiana Elbow Golf Technique is the increased control over their golf shots from tee-to-green. You will be surprised at the increase in distance and control you will gain by using the Indiana Elbow Golf Technique.
Home Plate Elbow Training Technique
In a YouTube Video covering the Bunt-Type Chip Shot, I discussed how I used a drop Home Plate to get a visual on how to drop your elbows to start your downswing. This is probably one of the easiest training techniques for the golfer to incorporate into their typical practice sessions.
In my On-Line Store under training gear, I have a drop Home Plate that I use with my students. By dropping your elbows in a certain orientation to the Home Plate, the golfer will develop lag to increase their driving distance and also have more controlled golf shots, the best of both worlds.
This is the training procedure you want to use that includes both the left and the right elbows. For convenience, I will be referring to the right-handed golfer in the following Indiana Elbow Golf Technique training procedure:
