The Day-to-Day Demands Placed on Coaches– Most Sports Used to be Seasonal, but with Off-Season and Recruiting Coaching has become Year-Round

Sports is highly competitive in nature, especially on football coaches and their staff where they are either in practice and training during the regular season, recruiting, or especially mentoring their young men and women. This type schedule doesn’t leave much time for these coaches to take care of their own needs including their health and fitness.

Coaches don’t often make time for their own health and fitness needs, as pointed out by Chris Fowler on Paul Finebaum’s Show yesterday (13Dec2022). Chris, Thanks for the point that you made during this interview. Believe me from my own experiences, you can let your health and fitness get away from you by taking care of what we think are bigger issues. I can’t think of a bigger issue in life than our health and fitness.

Effort Needed to Maintain Your Health and Fitness

If we don’t focus on our health and fitness, before long we are losing that battle of maintaining our health and fitness and having medical issues that go unchecked. Maintaining our health and fitness is further complicated with the aging process where our health and fitness become more difficult to maintain. Believe me, I know this personally at age 65.

This was taken in May of 2015, a month before I retired and two months before I reached my waistline of 28.50- inches and dropped 52- Lbs. I dropped so much weight, inches, and years off the health and fitness I was able to model my sportswear starting in June of 2015. We typically flew the 206(D) Bell Jet Ranger on majority of our aerial patrols.

Coaches, take some advice from my own situation where I was a grid engineer with Entergy on call 24/7/365 and working from 6 a.m. to 6 or 7 p.m., 5-days a week. I was also conducting aerial patrol flights that require a lot of sitting in a tight cockpits for 7-to-8 hours, only taking fuel breaks. The health and fitness you had in the early part of your career are ones you can lose to other issues in your schedule.

I have some Encouragement for You

Let me give you some encouragement; however, as I have discovered eight (8) years ago. You can take small steps now to dramatically improve your health and fitness status, not just for yourself, but for your family, team, and your fan base. We want to see you on the sidelines and giving press conferences, even if we disagree with the outcome of some of the games or seasons. But the biggest game you are going to be in is that of life. Please take these small measures as I have listed below and taken myself:

·         Take your blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol levels regularly.

·         Measure your waistline regularly, as your waistline should be under one-half your height in inches. For example, my height is 65- inches, so my waistline should be 32.50- inches. Actually, my waist is 28.50- inches that I check regularly.

·         Have a diet that is based on WHAT you eat- A diet high in Protein, dietary fiber, and Omega-3, but very low in sugar and the hidden sugars, which are those pesky starches that are so tantalizing, because they are laced with salt.

·         WHEN you eat, between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Remember that nothing ever good happens eating past 6 p.m.

·         Exercise on a regular (125-minutes per week) basis, including Aerobic-Cardio and Strength Training. You have a Strength & Conditioning Coach on staff, use them!

·         Above all, get your annual physical.

Greatness is a lot of small things done well

Take advice from one of the best NFL Linebackers, Ray Lewis, in his quote- Greatness is a lot of small things done well. Please take your health seriously and don’t bench your health and fitness for a busy schedule, because you will lose that competition.

These are easy steps, but essential ones for your Health and Fitness. We want you to be on the sidelines, but not where you benched your health and fitness. Be involved in your health and fitness, like your team’s performance depends on it, because it does.

Just by following these simple steps above, I dropped 52- Lbs. and 9.25- inches within 9- months at age 57, so it isn’t impossible to do; and most of you are younger than I am.

Pinto beans that have a Health Index of 2.75 are considered the perfect food, along with Sweet Potatoes and Turkey.

My diet is based on reading nutrition labels using just 9- components to make sure that I eat health from food groups that haves a health index at or below a Health Index (HI) of 3.25. At age 65, I give you the photograph below taken in August of 2022 in our hangar after we did a photoshoot for my line of sportswear and performance collection:

This includes all the details of THE DELPHI DIET and videos of my CAST FITNESS System that I follow where I dropped 52- LBS. 9.25- Inches within 9- months.
