I’m Tone Deaf When it comes to Politics– I’m an Engineer by trade based on analytics in Regards to Root Cause Analysis in Approach to Issues
I’m an Civil Engineer with a background in Electrical, Mechanical, and Chemical Engineering
When I state that I’m tone deaf when it comes to politics; that means I based my analysis off visual results and the cause and effects rather than talking points. Like in a court trials they have to decide the case based on merits of the established evidence.
I work over 33- years as a grid engineer designing, building, and maintaining transmission (115kV – 500kV) lines. There was no margin for errors in working lines that we sometime work Hot or energized. You had no second chances.
I learned early in my career to verify every piece of information like your life depended on it, especially when I got into management. You couldn’t just take someone’s word for it, you had to check it out and verify it. You didn’t want to send your crew to a line section that you thought was de-energized, but wasn’t. I learned to check everything out thoroughly. Like President Reagan stated- Trust, but verify!
Jen Psaki Video Message on Oil Prices
When Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary, made a presentation on a video this week stating that the oil industry executives were price gouging and causing high prices that we are paying at the pump, I had to go back and verify her statement against facts. It didn’t sound quite right what Jen Psaki was presenting in her case to the American people.
I have tracked oil prices since 1976 when I started investing in energy, because energy is the life blood of our economy, whatever the form of that reliable energy is. Energy is just as significant, important, and vital to our National Security as our proud military is to our Country.
No country can survive without a reliable supply of energy that is also affordable. You’re playing Russian roulette with your economy and people’s livelihoods when you’re making terrible decisions when it comes to energy production, supply, and reliability. You can’t have amateurs making these type of decisions based purely on politics. You have to have a reliable source(s) of energy period.
This was the very reason that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 07th, 1941, because the United States placed an embargo of oil and steel imports to Japan. They wanted U.S. out of their expansion plans into the Pacific and Asia for its resources.
Now Fast Forward to this Week
Jen Psaki blamed the price hikes on the oil industry, but the evidence doesn’t support her claims. If you review the chart below on price per gallon at the pump (here in Mississippi, like in other parts of our country) they were $1.81 at the end December 2020, but by April 2021 the prices escalated to $2.63, that is a 45.30% increase in just four short months. So let’s look at the facts.
So what changed or happened between December 2020 and April 2021 that caused prices to escalate by 45.30%, even before Russia invaded Ukraine. We were exporting oil up to December of 2020, but in April of 2021, we were importing oil, so in short it was basically due to the supply side economics. So what caused us to go from World exporting of oil to a nation that imported oil? We are even now are going to Iran and Venezuela for oil. That will put us back into a predicament that we were in during the late 70’s under Jimmy Carter.
In the field of Engineering, we would classify doing the same injudicious thing over and over again as insanity.
Endanger Species List
I’m not a political consultant, but from my observation the political party that pursues this energy policy will soon be placed on the Endanger Species List! Especially when summer vacation will start in a couple of months. You’re asking families that is just now coming out of the grips of a Pandemic that were isolated to now face pump prices going north of $4.00. These families have been planning their vacation for the past two years. I let the party that made these decisions on energy to figure out what will happen in November of ’22 and ’24.
Anyone who has done a DIY project knows that you can realize significant savings by providing your own labor and materials for a home improvement project. So when we went from producing our own oil and refining it here we realized a savings at the pump. Now compare those prices to the pump prices of April 2022 and going forward this summer. If we were still exporting oil we would have better price controls and wouldn’t have to import oil. So why are we importing oil when we have oil reserves here?
Here’s the Facts
· Joe Biden got to office on January 20, 2021
· Day one he shut down all exploration on lease Federal Held Land.
· Biden shut down the Keystone Pipe Line that could be completed in only 8- months before going operational.
· Joe Biden said he wanted to do away with all fossil fuel production including fracking which produced good paying American jobs including the Keystone Pipeline.
· These actions cause a reduction of oil on the market that we were at the end of 2020 were exporting with pump prices at $1.81.
Renewable Energy
I’m all for renewable energy, but those options DO NOT substitute for a 97% fleet of vehicles that are on the American roads and the job-sites that are fossil fuel based. EV can’t replace the Diesel and Jet-A engine that powers our large equipment and airline industry. If EV was that advanced then Biden’s fleet of vehicles (The Beast) and his aircraft that he uses would be EV based engines, and not fossil fuel based, NOW not in the future.
Like the General said- You can’t go to war with the Army you want or wish you had, you have to go to war with the Army you have NOW!
Our Best Avenue of Renewable Resource- Hydrogen Energy Source within Reach
If I was pursuing a renewable energy source, it would be fast tracking Hydrogen that can be used in the internal combustion engine or the turbojet engine that exist as prototypes now. Hydrogen could be operational on a wide scale in 5-to-10 years with certain retrofits to today’s engines. Hydrogen is the cleanest form energy we can develop over the next 10-years and have for the foreseeable future.
