How to Take Time to Decompress from Stress– Be Grateful, Be Active, Be Out in Nature and Get Some Sunshine and Fresh Air to Decompress

Being grateful, especially this being Memorial Day weekend, the first step of decompressing is being grateful, because it gets one to focus on the positive influences in one’s life and out from the negative situation. The men and women that fought, defending our country sacrificed for our freedoms and liberties did it in the face of insurmountable odds. Their true strength was focusing on what they could do to affect the outcome of a situation. They were able to be aware of  what they could do and not on what limited them. That comes from having confidence in one’s abilities, known and unknown. Your stronger than you think, you just need the situation to prove it to yourself.

I was listening to John Tesh radio show, Intelligence for Your Life, like I normally do on my tractor while working on my farm. Yesterday (27May2022) he was discussing effective ways to deal with our stress and the ability to decompress.

Grateful Mindset

First and foremost always have a mindset of being grateful. One reason is it is easier to discover opportunities and solutions with a positive mindset than with a negative mindset. I was a Grid Engineer for Entergy in Transmission Lines working storms and emergencies responses you have to have a positive mindset to accomplish what you need to do.

I’m the one in the middle on a Double-Steel Channel X-arm working with my crew the last week that I worked before I retired at age 58, in June of 2015.

Being grateful opens up opportunities and avoids obstacles because of the awareness that I had of what was possible. There are three components to Situational Awareness that aviation uses- Perception, Comprehension, and Projection.

Perception– Being aware of what can be done and what you have done.

Comprehension– Rely on instincts and confidence.

Perception– Being aware of what can be done and what you have done.

Projection– The ability to mentally visualize an outcome of a task or mission prior to execution. This is Rule 5 of the Subconscious Mind of who we are. I will list all ten Rules of the Subconscious mind at the end of this article.

BE ACTIVE:

The medical field realizes the importance of physical fitness and training not just for the body, but more important, our minds. Besides how physical fitness improves our vital signs, it improves our mood. When we exercise it allows our body to release the hormone Dopamine, the feel good hormone. Exercise and fitness increases your ability to relieve depression and enjoy life.

I workout six-days per week in my own Home GYM. It doesn’t take a lot of equipment to have an effective workout program. Below is all the equipment that I use. And don’t use age to avoid working out, I’m 64 years old. You start with Elastic Resistance Tubing and an Ab Roller and add equipment from that point. Below is my Home GYM:

Get out into Nature:

I work on my farm and play golf, so I’m out in nature a lot. I call working on my KUBOTA Tractor my therapy. Just get out and walk, light jog, or pick up a sport. The reason I mention a sport is the more you play a sport the more you want to get into shape to improve your performance.

Get Some Sun Exposure and Fresh Air: Sun rays offer tremendous benefits to your mind, body, and mood. We can get the sun rays based on our skin types. Sun rays improve mood, lower stress, and can do something totally unexpected, shrink our cells under the skin from storing fat. Lose the stubborn belly fat. Here’s a brief article on benefits of the sun’s rays by WebMD: Sunlight Effects. Check with your doctor for determining the appropriate exposure.

Here are some other tips on Decompressing:

Follow a healthy diet and fitness program and monitor your vitals.

Don’t let others determine your self-worth.

Don’t try to meet others’ expectations.

Don’t let your past determine your future.

Use failures to gain needed experience; and success to build confidence.

Don’t waste your time and energy on being vindictive. The best revenge is just being successful, because you don’t have to lower your standards to someone else or compromise your values. You don’t have to apologize for your success or even explain yourself. And a punching bag doesn’t hurt either.

Develop perseverance, because nothing can replace persistence and the journey will allow you to learn about your strengths.

Do not let current situations determine future results.

Friendships- they evolve, and don’t associate with people who are negative. There are very true foul weather friends that remain. Case in point- When I retired, the people that I developed relationships with that I bought millions of dollar material from just vanished. That is what I mean about how friendships evolve. Some friendships are more about what you do, than who you are.

Any relationship has to be based on mutual respect and acceptance. Don’t try to relive the past, as it only handicap you from moving forward.

The 10- Rules of the Subconscious Mind:

  1. The subconscious mind does not and must not differentiate between visualizations (practice) and real situations (performance).
  2. Your subconscious feels that time passes faster.
  3.  The Quicker and longer the subconscious mind believes and proves something, the harder it will be to alter this belief in any way.
  4. Every thought causes a physical reaction. The subconscious mind can’t distinguish between a positive or negative thought.
  5. What you expect tends to be realized.
  6. Finding proof of your beliefs strengthens them.
  7. The subconscious mind always prevails in conflicts with the conscious mind.
  8. An idea, once accepted, will remain firmly in place until it is replaced by another.
  9. The greater the conscious effort reduces the subconscious intuitive response.
  10. Suggestions and beliefs can be used to “program” the subconscious mind.
