THE QATSPY® Preflight Checklist for Golfers– The Golfer’s Cock & Lock Preflight Routine to set up the Takeaway for Power & Clubhead Speed
Pilots use a preflight checklist to ensure that they and their aircraft are fully operational before takeoff. But the preflight checklist does something else that is just as important, as it gets the pilot and their crew to focus on their takeoff and flight. The significance of the preflight checklist is to develop a routine that allows their instincts to be unencumbered. There are three (3) conditions that must be in place for the pilot to focus on their procedures that they must do before takeoff and in-flight.
The 3-Focus Factors for High Performance:
- Has normal and routine conditions that must exist.
- Relies on a high degree of relaxation, confidence, and muscle memory.
- Develops high level of conscious focus to allow their subconscious mind to perform instinctively. In other words, the pilot doesn’t get in their own way.
How to Apply the Golfer’s Preflight Routine to the Golf Game
Using the three (3) Focus Factors above, here is what the golfer needs to perform in order to develop a consistent golf game.
Normal Routine– Most all athletes depend on their wrist action, and golf is no different. One of the most typical and instinctive maneuvers is what we’ve done since playing sandlot baseball. The baseball swing and golf swing are actually more similar then they are different. Presetting the wrist action is a great focus point.
A golfer can step their way through this preset wrist action in their golf swing by using a simple Syncing and Preset Technique to set the wrists into the Cock and Lock Position. I just focus on my preflight routine of using the acronym S–P–T. I review the SPT in my Introduction and Demo Orange Bucket Challenge Video below:

High Degree of Relaxation and Confidence of Muscle Memory
Ninety percent (90%) of our golf game is controlled my our subconscious mind. This is where the golfer’s muscle memory resides. To unlock this huge potential, the right-handed golfer, in this case, just has to focus on being aware of two muscles, the Palmaris Longus muscle/tendon and the Brachio-radialis muscle. For short, I refer to these as PALMER and BRACHS. For the baseball batter, these are normal, routine maneuvers.
This allows the Golfer to Focus, instead of using Swing Thoughts
Like the pitcher on the mound for game one of the Baseball World Series, the pitcher wants to just focus on the strike zone and not think. If the pitcher starts thinking, they get in their own way of something that should be instinctive. The golfer’s strike zone is an area where the handle of the club and the hands and wrists are positioned.
Don’t think about the golf ball, because it isn’t in your strike zone. Just focus on the two muscles the golfer wants to preset their wrist action in the golf swing. Just like home plate isn’t the strike zone in baseball, the golf ball isn’t the strike zone for the golfer. Everything that the golfer wants to perform is right in their hands. If you notice my video demonstrating the Orange Bucket Challenge, you notice that I typically practice with a throw-down home plate to allow me to focus on my baseball-type swing.
These two videos above were used by a local television station (WJTV-12 in Jackson, MS) to produce a segment for their weekend sports show of how I use a HOME DEPOT Orange bucket to hit 290- yard tee shots to within 15-feet of the bucket. All of these videos were done on the first take.
