Golf Swing Mechanics | Learn to Sync and Lock The SUPER-NATOR

ESPY Golf Swing tips- How to use a simple Elbow Sync technique to Sync and Preset the SUPER-NATOR muscle to develop basic golf swing mechanics. This was one of the golf swing tips that Arnold Palmer gave President Eisenhower before a Pro-Am to help him keep his right elbow next to his right side. While the President was warming up, Arnold Palmer noticed that the President didn’t have the distance or control of a 12 handicapper. Once Arnold Palmer brought this to the President’s attention, President Eisenhower gained the distance and control, just by using the Elbow Sync Technique that Arnold suggested. Matter of fact, the President did such a great job of following Arnold Palmer’s suggestion of the Elbow Sync Technique that the President wore a blister on the inside of his elbow.

The Elbow Sync Technique

The Elbow Sync Technique to develop basic golf swing mechanics of gear mechanics.

An important part of establishing the Elbow Sync Technique is by properly setting a muscle in the upper forearm, right below the right elbow. This is demonstrated in the diagram above, where the golfer’s elbow is next to their rib cage. This was the Elbow Sync Technique that President Eisenhower used at the Pro-Am. This Elbow Sync Technique is essential for setting up the golfer’s golf swing mechanics for distance and control. The actual name of this SUPER-NATOR muscle is the Supinator muscle. But due to the significant impact that the Supinator muscle has in developing the basic golf swing fundamentals, I refer to this muscle as the SUPER-NATOR muscle.

The SUPER-NATOR Muscle Synchronizes the Golfer’s Elbow with the Shoulders

This SUPER-NATOR muscle reminds me of an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, The Terminator, because it terminates the negative effects of the golfer’s swing thoughts. As indicated in illustration below, the SUPER-NATOR muscle, in the upper part of the forearm, develops an important subconscious muscle memory. Presetting the wrists and setting the SUPER-NATOR muscle establishes 80 percent of the golfer’s golf swing, just with two simple elements, Sync and Preset.

SUPER-NATOR muscle

The SUPER-NATOR muscle used to sync the golfer’s elbow with their shoulders to develop gear mechanics.

The SUPER-NATOR muscle is important because this muscle connects two bones in the dominant forearm, the Radial and Ulna bones, to allow the right elbow to function like a small gear, shown above, like in a ten-speed bicycle. The reason Arnold Palmer’s Elbow Sync Technique worked so well for the President is because this technique was based on sprocket mechanics. The golf swing sequence (Sync, Preset, and Yaw) allows the golfer to develop the following golf swing mechanics:

  • TAKEAWAY SWING– The golfer using the Elbow Sync Technique allows the small gear (the golfer’s right elbow for a right-hander) to coil the large gear (the golfer’s shoulders). This allows the golfer to develop POWER to coil the upper and lower high threshold muscles.
  • DOWNSWING– The golfer is automatically reversing the gears, where the large gear (the golfer’s shoulders) uncoils to rotate the small gear (the golfer’s elbow). This automatically allows the golfer to naturally develop SPEED through impact and transfer POWER from the large core muscles.

The SYNC and PRESET Golf Swing Sequence

On Golf Channel, early part of 2017, there was an important interview televised that supports the Ergonomic SYNC and PRESET elements used in my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach. This allows the golfer to develop the Elbow Sync Technique with the SUPER-NATOR muscle. This Elbow Sync Technique was demonstrated by David Duval during this interview with Charlie Rymer in what Charlie Rymer referred to as That Wrist Thing.

In addition to the golfer presetting their wrists, the golfer is actually synching the top and locking the bottom parts of the right SUPER-NATOR muscle. In my book, I use a different type of glove to help the golfer understand how to set up and execute this Elbow Sync Technique. In my coaching techniques, I use a pair of EVERLAST® boxing gloves to teach the golfer how to perform the Elbow Sync Technique. The golfer wants to feel the areas below and above the wristbands to properly Sync and Preset their golf swing. Refer to the boxing bag workout below to see how to Sync the elbow and Preset the wrists.

A Recommendation for your Golf Game:

I would like to recommend an interesting  radio program that I regularly listen to on my I-Heart Radio app on KARN 102.9 FM station, out of Little Rock, AR. They air a golf show called Arkansas Fairways and Greens, at 7:00 AM CT each Saturday morning, hosted by Bob Steel, and co-hosted by Jay Fox and Charles Crowson. Bob occasionally has on his show as his guest Alex Myers with Golf Digest and Ron Sirak with Golf Channel. This show is worth tuning into for golf news and information.
