The Classic A-2 Leather Bomber Jacket was first issued to the U.S. ARMY Air Corps in June of 1931, to replace the button-up A-1 Leather Bomber Jacket that didn’t have the zipper front, elastic cuffs, nor the elastic waistband to protect pilots. These features on the A-2 offered the pilot additional protection and enclosure from the elements. The A-2 Leather Bomber Jacket is essentially the same as when it was introduced in 1931.
This Classic A-2 Leather Bomber Jacket soon became an icon among pilots, airborne units during World War II, that Hollywood actors wore in those classic movies from the 1940’s and 50’s.
