How to Develop Your Golf Game During a Pandemic, with Virtual Coaching Techniques to Play one of the Only Sports that provides Social Distancing

Golf is also an excellent exercise and means to socially connect while socially distancing. Golf is also a means to maintain your physical and mental conditioning due to flexibility and strength requirements it has, especially if you walk the golf course.

It looks like golf is the only sport in town that people can participate in for an athletic activity and for our social health and maintain social distancing. COVID-19 has changed not only how we work, but our lifestyle as well. Health and Fitness is important, more NOW than ever before. It is proven by research that exercise and social interactions in an athletic activity reduce stress and depression.

 

What’s great about the sport of golf is that golf can be played as a team or an individual sport. This is one reason that golf is an excellent athletic activity for kids in homeschool programs. It look like homeschooling will be the norm for several weeks to come. Sports is just as important as any other academic activity for your kids and for all of us to engage in for health and fitness.

I have seen polling where the question is asked if golf is a sport. The point that I make is to take a pack with 40 pounds of gear in it and take an eight-and-a-half mile hike and still perform an aerobic exercise. That’s exactly what I do when I walk the course by playing 18-holes. You will be mentally and physically tested.

One of the best ways to learn and improve your golf game is based on a self-coaching model. The Palmer Preset IQ-Golf Technique APP lays out fundamentals of WHAT, WHY, and HOW to give you the ability to coach yourself and take your training from practice in the backyard or garage to performance on the golf course.

The key part of The 411-Palmer Preset IQ-Golf Technique APP is the APP. APP stands for Apperception that allows you to take motor skills developed in one sport, like baseball/softball, and develop skills in your golf game. My Kinesiology research project was comparing the golf swing mechanics to the baseball-type swing. There were more similarities than there were differences. The Other Issue with Your Golf Lessons and Practice Sessions

The golfer might very well use their conscious mind for golf lessons and during their practice sessions, but I can guarantee the golfer this- Once you step foot onto the golf course, your subconscious mind will take over.

The golfer has to train their subconscious mind during their practice sessions in order to see improvements on the golf course. This is the main reason that most golfers don’t see their practice work transition to the golf course. If the golfer’s swing isn’t instinctive, the golfer won’t see their long hours of practice on the golf course.

Matter of fact, the subconscious mind will disregard your practice work and return to what the subconscious mind correlates playing under course conditions and not the long hours spent hitting golf balls from one spot to a 300-yard wide driving range.

That doesn’t correlate to what the golfer will experience on the golf course, where the golfer has one shot to a 30-yard wide fairway with hazards. Then either ride or walk to the next shot. The golfer has to develop scrimmage-type practice sessions.

A typical practice session on my farm for me and my students is using The IQ-Home Depot Orange Bucket Challenge, which is the basis for The 411- Palmer Preset IQ-Golf Technique APP.

I take special practice balls, called AlmostGOLF® Balls, that travel in feet, instead of yards, and my students and I practice hitting golf shots where four (4) out of five (5) must fall within a 10-foot radius of the orange bucket. If more than one shot falls outside of this 10-foot radius, my students and I must start over at the tee box on a scaled-down, 420 feet, Par-4. This includes the tee shot and approach shot, that equates to 10 golf shots playing 5 times, or 50 golf shots. My objective is to have 5 complete holes, where 4 out of 5 golf shots hit the target.
