Exercises for Your Back and Sciatic Nerve Issues to Remain Active and Enjoy Your Life. I’m Active with Golf, Farming, and Maintaining my Health

One of the best noninvasive ab and back exercises is a simple leg lift that can be done, even on the edge of your bed before bedtime and at the start of the day. I don’t have the most chronic back problems compared to others, but I have my share of sciatic nerve issues. This ranges from stiffness in my calves and quads muscles to tingling in my feet.

After I receive a medical discharged from the Army, I had four knee surgeries and a hip replacement, due to injuries I incurred. My priority is to remain active, despite flare-ups in my sciatic nerve discomfort. I took a Kinesiology class to help me learn what I could do to help my own situation and golf game. I developed some exercises that have significantly relieved my sciatic nerve issue and got me back active.

One other measure I took was that I changed out our mattress to a gel memory foam mattress that relieved about 75 percent of my sciatic nerve issues, and the other 25 percent was addressed by exercise and ergonomics, mainly proper bending movements.

I always thought my main issue was operating my tractor and working on my farm. But the major contributing factor was my mattress. One precaution that I take is wearing an elastic waist belt when operating my tractor to reduce vibrations. Two huge factors for back issues are improper bending (including sleeping positions) and vibrations, or repeated impact.

If you’ve ever operated yard equipment and experienced vibrations from the tool, you’ve felt the discomfort that the vibration caused in your fingers and hands. This is exactly what occurs to your back, especially in the lumbar region.

One measure that we all can take with yard tools is just take your hand off the tool and shake them for relief. This technique is called relief exercise we typically use.

Using Exercises and Bending Techniques to Alleviate Back Issues

I have found two bending techniques and three exercises that have alleviated my sciatic nerve issues. The bending techniques are detailed in my Sciatic Nerve YouTube Video, below. The three exercises in my CASPER Fitness Program, Part 1 include leg lifts and ab roller, which have significantly alleviated my sciatic nerve issue. The third exercise is lower lateral tubing exercise. The second CASPER Exercises are Tubing Exercises that anyone can do with elastic exercise Tubing.
