A Pitch to Improve Your Prostate Recovery– One significant obstacle in dealing with Prostate Cancer Recovery, is incontinence. I was getting Stir Crazy after my Prostate Cancer Surgery, so I decided to work on my short golf game, pitching.

As an engineer, we are trained to understand and solve the problems. You will need to pace yourself during your recovery and gradually get back into a daily routine based on your physician recommendations from your physician.

Guys, in dealing with your recovery from Prostate Cancer, you will have to deal with incontinence that is a factor, but this is manageable if you do your therapy regularly. With proper therapy, you can eliminate the issue with incontinence. But please DO NOT let incontinence deter you from seeking detection with a PSA Test and medical treatment for your Prostate Cancer that can be indeterminate at best. You don’t know the status until you know it. I’m proof of that, what we thought was barely stage 1 Cancer turned out to be stage 2 Cancer. DO NOT ignore your medical status.

My Elevation in my Blood Pressure leading up to my Prostate Cancer

But here is one indication that caused me to move up my annual physical from the end of the year to August. My blood pressure started elevated to 157/95 by July of ’23 that was unusual for me where my normal blood pressure runs normally 114/56. I did some research and elevated blood pressure CAN indicate Prostate Cancer among other medical issues.

This was taken on November 27th, 2023 where I was working out on my boxing bag in my gym at age 66.

Like most guys that work out in a gym, shown above, we don’t take downtime very well, but you have to give your body the time to rest and recover (R&R) over a 2-to-6 week period based on your fitness level. Yesterday marked 17-days since my surgery on 05Feb2024. So I wanted to polish up on my short game in golf by hitting a series of 24-inch and 12- foot pitch shots, shown below, in the two training videos that I did 7- years ago in my training facility.

NOTE: These training videos were done before I lost over 52- lbs. of weight and 9- inches in my waist following THE MELIORA DIET & FITNESS Program in 2017.

A 24-inch Bunt-type pitch shot that great for maintaining finesse and muscle memory during the off season or during the week.

A 12-foot Bunt-type pitch shot that great for maintaining finesse and muscle memory during the off season or during the week.

A short Rap-Type 24-inch pitch shots are great for a number of reasons, one is that this type of golf shot is a finesse-type shot that requires a great amount of skill and muscle memory and less physical effort. This is perfect for golfers of all levels and for me recovering from surgery. The other reason was totally unexpected. The 24-inch Rap and Bunt pitch shot helped reduce my incontinence that I was experiencing since 14Feb2024. I reduce my incontinence that I had been experiencing as an issue since after 14Feb2024, when my catheter was removed.

I’m plain spoken and direct because I want to help others guys recovering from prostate cancer as quickly as possible. One of the recoveries exercise that you are given is the Kegel exercise to reduce incontinence. The doctor will give you this type of exercise to do during your recovery.

But when you perform these Kegel exercises tie them to your breathing, like inhaling when you tighten the pelvic floor muscles up; and slowly exhale while relaxing the pelvic muscles. This technique can be done with several yoga exercises like the Cat Pose.

Believe or not, standing induces incontinence more than any other activity. More than walking, sitting, or even lying down in bed. Take every opportunity to go to the bathroom to remove pressure in your bladder will help your incontinence. As I was making my pitch golf shots, shown in my two training videos above, I noticed that my incontinence declined after my first practice session of hitting what I call a Rap and a bunt-type pitch shots.

Along with my Kegel exercises that are given to you by your doctor and my 24-inch Rap-type pitch golf shots, I also perform what are called Standing Row exercises with low rated elastic resistance tubing, shown below:

A Standing Lateral Row exercise with a resistance tubing to help recover from Prostate Cancer perform after getting clearance from your doctor.

The day after I started making my 24-inch Rap-type pitch golf shots, I started my standing row exercises, I noticed that I could stand without experiencing my incontinence issue.

While I’m pulling back on the elastic resistance tubing I’m tighten my pelvic floor muscles and inhaling and holding my breath then slowly exhale and relax my pelvic floor muscles, shown in the figure above right, anchored just above the floor, I also perform the Kegel exercise where I hold for a 15-count. I use a low rated resistance tubing of 15- lb. shown above by pulling back and hold for a 15-count, doing 20 reps.

What’s also great about the 24-inch pitch golf shot is that it doesn’t take a tremendous amount of effort by the lower body. The two (2) pitch shots are mainly an upper body-type golf shot. But the minor twisting at my waist and in my quads areas that decreased the issue of incontinence to a large degree. You will with time eliminate the issue of incontinence between 3-18 weeks.

I also perform the Kegel exercise three (3) other times during the day during my sitting and standing.
