How to develop and maintain a consistent golf swing
Whether the golfer is an amateur or a professional, the objective for each remains the same, how to develop and maintain a consistent golf swing. Both amateur and professional golfers spend a tremendous amount of their time working with their golf swing coach, developing a reliable and repeatable golf swing. But as many golfers are aware, practicing your golf swing and executing the same golf swing on the golf course are the tale of two golf swings.
In order to merge your practice into your round of golf, you will have to acquire the services of a personal golf swing coach, or your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind can provide the golfer with two additional components to the four I discussed in my article entitled- Golf Swing Coach APP- The Mind Leads the Body. As you may have noticed, I included in the title of this article the words, Instant and Total Recall. Golf, to some, might be a slow sport; in reality, golf is a sport with quick responses and a very small margin of error. It’s not a matter of yards, feet, or even inches, but a matter of millimeters. In order to control this, the golfer has to treat their subconscious mind as their personal golf swing coach. If the golfer fails to do this, the golfer will be faced with insurmountable odds, without a consistent golf swing as a result.
Self-Coaching Approach to Your Golf Swing
The two additional key components that a golfer needs to include in their own golf swing coach approach to develop subconscious muscle memory are:
- Every memory causes a physical and instant reaction.
- Suggestions can be used to “program” the subconscious mind for Total Recall.
The only time the golfer has total control over their golf swing is during the takeaway swing, as this is the action phase of the golfer’s swing. The downswing is the golfer’s automatic reaction, due to the fact that it only takes approximately 0.75 to 0.80 seconds to complete the downswing. Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of motion not only covers all motion in our universe, but his third law covers the golfer’s swing as well.
Sir Isaac Newton’s third law states- for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The action is the golfer’s deliberate element they use to set up their golf swing, while the downswing is the golfer’s natural reaction or auto response to the takeaway swing. But the golfer has another advantage by using the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind has no perception of time. This is the reason why Wade Boggs‘ 33rd in all-time batting average could suspend a 90 mph fast ball enough to see the stitching or lacing on the baseball.
The key to improving your golf swing is to focus on your mental golf swing coach, instead of the your physical golf swing coach. The golfer is the one having to make the golf shot, not his swing coach. The golfer has to concentrate on programming the muscle memory for their subconscious mind to use to set up and execute the golf swing. This is where the two terms Instant and Total Recall affect the golfer’s swing. This is why the mind must lead the body in performing the golfer’s swing.
Using The ESPY Golf Swing Coach APP
In my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach, I use the ESPY APP, allowing the golfer to develop a constant golf swing with distance and control. Because of all the conditions the golfer has to deal with, the golfer’s swing should not be one of those conditions. This helps develop a significant mechanical advantage called sprocket mechanics.
By SYNCING and PRESETTING the golfer’s wristbands, the golfer completes 80 percent of their golf swing. The only element left to complete is the YAW element, or taking the club to the top of the golfer’s swing. The SYNC and PRESET also capitalize on a previous muscle memory that most golfers have already committed to memory, such as their baseball/softball swings.
