Self-Coaching Forum of Mental Modeling- The Heart and Mind Always lead the Body in Golf!

Self-coaching forum (Mental Modeling) in athletics- Is based on the premise that you can’t expect to achieve what your heart and mind have not conceived, believed, and committed to first. Your heart and mind always lead the body. The body can’t be expected to achieve what the subconscious mind has not previously modeled or been pre-programmed with. This is based on Subconscious Rule of Engagement No. 4- Every thought causes a physical reaction.

The self-coaching forum of mental modeling follows two of the Subconscious Rules of Engagement. Rule No. 5- What you expect (or anticipate) tends to be realized, and Rule No. 1- The subconscious mind does not differentiate between visualizations and real situations.

Like in any real life situation, there are rules governing how the subconscious mind will always direct the athlete’s action, with or without the athlete’s awareness. The self-coaching forum of mental modeling can either be used to support the affirmative or the negative outcome of the athlete or golfer’s actions.

The golfer’s mental modeling and awareness are key in the golfer’s pre-shot routine. The golfer wants to be aware of their conditions; but focus more on the pre-shot routine, or the mental modeling process. The biggest misconception among some amateur golfers is their pre-shot routine. They are under the assumption that it pertains to, or is limited to, just running through their swing sequence before stepping into the box, or the address position.

The predominant part of the golfer’s pre-shot routine should be focused on the term pre-shot

It is true that the golfer should run through their swing sequence or swing routine, but the predominant part of the golfer’s pre-shot routine should be focused on the term pre-shot. This is where the golfer is mentally modeling their golf shot before they actually take the golf shot. This is governed by Subconscious Rule of Engagement No. 5- What you expect (or anticipate) tends to be realized. This is one of the subconscious mind’s greatest potentials that the golfer can take advantage of to improve their golf game.

One reason for this advantage is Subconscious Rule of Engagement No. 1- The subconscious mind does not differentiate between visualizations and real situations. You can realize this rule of engagement by watching high-action-packed movies and actually experience the action. In the last few years, the PGA has set up tracking systems on selective holes called ProTracer®. This tracking system is probably the best mental modeling technique that the golfer can use to engage their subconscious mind. Using colors for mentally tracking the ball’s pre-flight can improve the golfer’s performance.

When the golfer thinks about their pre-shot routine, they actually need to think about two components of their pre-shot routine, first as their swing routine. This allows the golfer to go through their swing sequence. In my case, it would be going through my ESPY Golf Swing routine- Ergo (or natural) Sync, Preset, and Yaw elements. While I perform my routine, I take a mental picture of the architectural layout of the hole, then I close my eyes to trace my golf shots to my target area with a red trajectory line and back to the ball position. This gives all the data my subconscious mind needs to execute the golf shot. The actual golf shot is like déjà vu all over again, a famous quote by Yogi Berra. I’m just repeating what I mentally performed in my subconscious mind.

This activates the three conditions that the subconscious mind needs to experience, or what I call an ExtraSensory Performance, ESP:

  1. Normal and routine tasks and conditions must exist.
  2. Rely on a high degree of relaxation, confidence, and muscle memory.
  3. The conscious and subconscious minds are focused on two different situations.

The golfer will find out, using their mental tracer system, the more defined the image of the golfer’s tracker, the better the results will be.
