2- Dollar Bill Classic Golf Swing Technique

Most generally the dollar bill is used for bunker shots to be able to hit behind and under the golf ball to get the ball up and out of the bunker. Here in this instance the 2-Dollar bill is used to fine tune your impact with the golf ball. The 2-Dollar bill can actually be used to develop a nice rhythm and great tempo into the impact area of with the ball.

How to Use a 2-Dollar Bill to Develop a Classic Golf Swing Technique

A 2-Dollar Bill classic golf swing technique can provide the golfer with three of the biggest golf swing advantages. ONE is the mental image to start the takeaway swing, the SECOND is the mental image to start the downswing, and THIRD is the follow-through. The takeaway, downswing, and the follow-through are probably three of the biggest golf swing techniques that a golfer must develop to achieve consistency in their golf game.

NOTE: The 2-Dollar Bill or any other denomination isn’t actually used in this golf swing technique, but is used only as a mental prop to create a mental image. PLEASE DO NOT use actual money. If you need an actual golf training aid, cut cardboard to the dimension of an actual dollar bill.

Most generally the dollar bill golf swing technique is used for bunker shots as I described in Sec. 13.6.4 of my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach, to be able to hit behind and under the golf ball to get the ball up and out of the bunker. Here in this instance the 2-Dollar bill is used to fine tune your impact with the golf ball. The 2-Dollar bill can actually be used to develop a nice rhythm and great tempo into the impact area of with the ball.

I developed a classic golf swing technique to help both the amateur and the professional golfer to make a consistent takeaway, downswing, and follow-through. These three golf swing techniques include a coaching technique called Apperception, or Context-based learning. This Apperception coaching technique requires the golfer to use a different type of glove to establish the proper wrist action in the golf swing.

The way to think about and use the golf swing coaching technique Apperception is to think about the aperture on a camera. The aperture on a camera is an opening to expose the film to light coming from a image and being capture by what once was film, but now is a digitally recorded.

The only thing the golfer needs to do using Apperception is to trade in their golf glove for a pair of kickboxing gloves and to use a 2-Dollar Bill to understand the wrist action in the golf swing, as noted below in the illustration, in the takeaway, downswing, and the follow-through. Think about the kickboxing gloves as the image your trying to capture in your mind.

The golfer, using the kickboxing gloves, is keying in on a small carpal bone in the wrist and the Thenar muscle. The kickboxing gloves allow the golfer to distinguish between the lower forearm and the wrist. A major issue in a lot of golf swings and coaching techniques is the lack of distinguishing between the golfer’s lower forearm and the wrist. The area where the golfer would wear their wristwatch is not their wrist, for this is the lower forearm.

The 2-Dollar Bill Takeaway Golf Swing Technique

The wrist action in the golf swing is just above the wristband on the boxing gloves. Setting the proper wrist action in the golf swing is critical, as uniquely demonstrated by Sir Nick Faldo in his YouTube video entitled: The “Faldo” Pre-Set Drill – Perfect Top of Backswing Position. Also a demonstration of this wrist action in the golf swing was done in an interview that Charlie Rymer did with David Duval on Golf Channel.

The kickboxing gloves just make it easier for golfer to develop a mental image to help train their minds to create the correct muscle memory in the takeaway, downswing, and the follow-through golf swing sequence. Also, the kickboxing gloves make for a great workout routine that is a part of the CASPER Fitness Program by using an 80-pound EVERLAST punching bag.

The punching bag workout builds strength in the wrist and helps build stamina, both of which are important. Just be sure to impact the bag between the picky and the ring knuckle. This is where that small carpal bone I refer to, called the Triquetrum, is located. The Triquetrum bone is aligned with the Ulna bone. This makes for a great axis to use in the golf swing sequence to establish the correct wrist action in the golf swing.

The 2-Dollar Bill Downswing Techniques

One of the best downswing techniques that I have discovered and have used is what I call the 2-Dollar Bill Golf Swing Technique. This provides not just one mental image for the golfer to start their downswing, but three. The golfer using the 2-Dollar Bill Golf Swing Technique can create a feel for the downswing by mentally aiming just behind the 2 Dollar Bill placed under the ball. This creates the wider swing arc and follow-through the golfer wants.

The second training technique that the 2-Dollar Bill Golf Swing Technique does is that it allows the golfer to keep the clubhead on the desired target line through impact to transfer the power in the form of momentum through the golf ball. Momentum produced by the follow-through is very seldom referred to in golf lessons in developing power. But, momentum is a critical component to create power for distance in golf.

The third training technique that the 2-Dollar Bill Golf Swing Technique does is that it allows the golfer to provide control, or shape, to their golf shots (Draw or Fade). Power and distance are great, but if the golfer doesn’t have the control factor, they are missing a vital component in their golf swing.

If you want to see the importance of control in golf shots, just look at the 2018 Open and the 2018 PGA Championship, where Tiger Woods missed fairways. At the 2018 PGA Championship, Tiger Woods, on the last day of the tournament,  hit one fairway out of seven on the front nine. What Tiger Woods lost in missed fairways, he made up with his fantastic Iron game.

The Approach to Your Golf Game is Important

Tiger Woods’ Iron game proves an important point that I wrote about in an article entitled: THE MOST IMPORTANT APPROACH TO YOUR GOLF GAME STRATEGIES IS HOW YOU APPROACH THE STRIKE ZONE. This article highlights the importance of the approach shot into the green is to improve your putting accuracy. If you can get your approach shot within 8- feet of the pin, your putting percentages have just improved to 54 percent, from 31 percent.

The shaping shots technique using the 2-Dollar Bill provides the golfer with a great mental image. The image below of the 2-Dollar Bill Golf Swing Technique shows three paths that the clubhead can take into the golf ball to produce a straight shot, a draw, and a fade. After the golfer sets their feet and their key thumb, as discussed in my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach, in Section 13.4.1, the golfer can create the proper impact and follow-through of the clubhead using the 2- Dollar Bill.

Here’s the QUESTION: How many times standing in the batter’s box did you think about your golf swing mechanics, techniques, or elements. Your were only focused on the pitch. Why don’t use the same Outlier technique in golf.

Sir Nick Faldo demonstration of the Preset Golf Swing Technique

One of Sir Nick Faldo’s first golf swing fundamentals that he learned as demonstrated in this YouTube video entitled The Preset golf swing technique. Nick Faldo discussed the WHAT, but didn’t explained the HOW in his YouTube video.

The Sync/Preset Elements in The ESPY Golf Swing Coach explains how to setup the classic golf swing maneuver to place the wrists into the key Lock Position. This was the same golf swing technique used by David Duval during an interview with Charlie Rymer on Golf Channel. These two Videos are probably two of the best Videos to discuss the wrist action in the golf swing.

A Recommendation for your Golf Game:

I would like to recommend an interesting radio program that I regularly listen to originating from my home state Arkansas on my I-Heart Radio app on KARN 102.9 FM station, out of Little Rock. They air a golf show called Arkansas Fairways and Greens, at 7:00 AM CT each Saturday morning, hosted by Bob Steel, and co-hosted by Jay Fox and Charles Crowson. Bob occasionally as has his guess Alex Myers with Golf Digest and Ron Sirak with Golf Channel. I was interviewed on his show about my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach. This show is worth tuning into for golf news and information.

Jay Fox is an Administrator with Arkansas State Golf Association that discuss amateur golf and rules of the game.
