Passing of a Legend and Icon, Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin was a child prodigy with a voice that the world recognized. Like many singers with natural singing talent, Aretha Franklin got her start in Church in Memphis. U.S. Hwy 61, from the Mississippi Delta up to Memphis, had has its share of world class talent, from the Rhythm & Blues, to Jazz and Rock & Roll, to Country. One of my favorite Country Gospel singers is Charlie Pride, who is from Sledge, Mississippi.

Aretha Franklin’s passing was also notable, because it was on August 16th, the same date that Elvis Presley passed away in 1977. Even though Elvis Presley called Memphis his home, he was actually from Tupelo, Mississippi.

Music and sports are great platforms to raise awareness of certain issues. With Aretha Franklin’s fight with Pancreatic Cancer, this provides awareness of this disease, with less than a 20 percent survival rate within seven years. With research, the survival rate should improve. But the best means to address Pancreatic Cancer is with prevention.

Diabetes, a Precursor to Developing Pancreatic Cancer

The pancreas is an organ located in the abdomen, just below the liver. It plays an essential role in converting the food we eat into fuel for the body’s cells. The pancreas has two main functions: an exocrine function that helps in digestion and an endocrine function that regulates blood sugar. (From Columbia University).

The hormone insulin is a main regulator of the glucose (sugar) levels in the blood. Insulin is produced in the pancreas. To be more specific, it’s produced by the beta cells in the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. When we eat, glucose levels rise, and insulin is released into the bloodstream. (From Nobel Price Organization).

One of the precursors for Pancreatic Cancer is developing Diabetes after age 50, along with obesity, smoking, genetics, chemical exposure, and race. African-Americans have a slightly higher risk for Pancreatic Cancer. (From American Cancer Society).

An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

While genetics and race can’t be changed or altered, we can take certain precautions, like getting our regular exercise, following a healthy diet, losing weight, and STOP smoking. Better yet, just don’t start smoking. I never have smoked, but I realize that stopping smoking and losing weight are equally as difficult.

Following a good diet and developing a fitness program have so many benefits that if I list them I would have a book, instead of this article. Diet and fitness provide three essential components, ONE to reduce your risk of developing diabetes, SECOND, fighting certain diseases, and THIRD, the ability to enjoy your life, especially your retirement years. Another factor for maintaining health, eligibility for retirement is being extended in to one’s 70’s; therefore, health is essential.

A great athletic activity that most of us can take part in is golf. The advantages of golf are that it doesn’t have an age limit or physical barriers. A person can play golf well into their 90’s and beyond, which is a key health factor. Just as important as it is to get people in their 50’s involved in a sport, it is just as important to get kids involved in golf. Obesity among kids is extremely dangerous, especially with its connections to diabetes and hypertension.

Fitness accounts for about 20 percent of our being healthy and maintaining our fitness. The other 80 percent of our health is our diet. A key part in our diet is what is called Circadian Rhythms. Without a doubt, it is important to watch what you eat, but even more important is when you eat, even healthy foods.

The SR925 Diet Program, Lost Eight-Inches in My Waistline

I tried a multiple of diet programs, where I lost more battles than I won. The battles that I did win was short-lived, four to six months at best. It wasn’t until I started looking at WHEN I eat rather than WHAT eat that I started seeing major results.

The body can process foods at its maximum level between 9 o’clock in the morning until 5 o’clock in the evening. With the body’s maximum level of burning calories at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, I developed the SR925 Diet Program to take advantage of this, along with what I eat.

I was able to develop what I call a Weight Factor (WF) that helped me evaluate foods, based on how well the body could process these into a healthy source of fuel. I was able to make evaluations, for instance, between the Sweet Potato and the Idaho Potato. Even though the Sweet Potato has a higher level of sugar than the Idaho Potato, the Sweet Potato, based on my Weight Factor, was the healthier choice.

Armed with the SR925 Diet Program, which is FREE to use, and the Weight Factor, I lost a total of eight- inches in my waist and 45- pounds, within nine months. Six- inches of the nine- inches came within three-months of me following  the SR925 Diet Program.

Now the ultimate success of a diet is how well you can keep off the weight. I started the SR925 Diet Program in December of 2014 and have kept off the weight, without a lot of sacrificing taste or enjoying meals. To prove that 80 percent of losing weight is diet, I have always followed my CASPER Fitness Program, but the SR925 Diet Program turned my body into a Juggernaut for burning calories.

There will be one obstacle that you will have to manage, and that is NOT eating past 5 o’clock. The 9 o’clock start time doesn’t propose the issue with having your last meal at 5 o’clock. But that is a small price to pay to obtain a healthy weight and lifestyle.

NOTE: In social events that occur past 5 o’clock, I eat salads and try to eat before 6:30 PM. Ninety percent of my meals are consumed between 9 and 5.

Golf is more than a sport to develop one’s physical ability of coordination and confidence, but also to develop one’s mental capability in learning, especially in a homeschool setting. An athletic program is critical for learning and preventing certain mental issues, like Alzheimer’s. And what is great for a homeschool setting is that golf can be played as an individual or a team sport.

Operation DOG TAG

Sports, such as golf, along with fitness and an exercise regimen that includes yoga, has been proven to be a great Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for trauma victims. Veterans and those who have experienced a traumatic situation where the mind has been traumatized and disrupted can use golf and yoga to help re-establish connection and pathways in the brain. Here’s the QUESTION: How many times standing in the batter’s box did you think about your golf swing mechanics, techniques, or elements. Your were only focused on the pitch. Why don’t use the same Outlier technique in golf.

Sir Nick Faldo demonstration of the Preset Golf Swing Technique

One of Sir Nick Faldo’s first golf swing fundamentals that he learned as demonstrated in this YouTube video entitled The Preset golf swing technique. Nick Faldo discussed the WHAT, but didn’t explained the HOW in his YouTube video.

The Sync/Preset Elements in The ESPY Golf Swing Coach explains how to setup the classic golf swing maneuver to place the wrists into the key Lock Position. This was the same golf swing technique used by David Duval during an interview with Charlie Rymer on Golf Channel. These two Videos are probably two of the best Videos to discuss the wrist action in the golf swing.

A Recommendation for your Golf Game:

I would like to recommend an interesting radio program that I regularly listen to originating from my home state Arkansas on my I-Heart Radio app on KARN 102.9 FM station, out of Little Rock. They air a golf show called Arkansas Fairways and Greens, at 7:00 AM CT each Saturday morning, hosted by Bob Steel, and co-hosted by Jay Fox and Charles Crowson. Bob occasionally as has his guess Alex Myers with Golf Digest and Ron Sirak with Golf Channel. I was interviewed on his show about my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach. This show is worth tuning into for golf news and information.

Jay Fox is an Administrator with Arkansas State Golf Association that discuss amateur golf and rules of the game.
