The Four Horsemen of The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP to Go from Practice to Performance
The phrase Four Horsemen appeared first in Apostle John’s Book of Revelation and in football by the sports writer Grantland Rice, the Shakespeare of sports writers. In football, The Four Horsemen describes the four backs on the 1924 Notre Dame football team.
In my book, I have a section describing The Four Horsemen that are the keys of golf coaching. I used the term The Four Horsemen in Section 4.0- The Perseverance of Faith to represent The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP. The four components in the TEAM coaching APP are Techniques, Elements, Apperception, and Mechanics.
Some golf coaching methods focus only on 20 percent of the golfer’s game, while 80 percent isn’t addressed during golfer’s lessons or practice sessions. The golfer has to depend on this 80 percent during their round of golf. The golfer may very well practice golf using their conscious mind, but I can guarantee the golfer that once they step foot onto the golf course, they will be using their subconscious mind. This explains why we develop confidence in our golf lessons and practice sessions, but this seems to evaporate once we are on the golf course.
Many golfers experience this disconnect in their golf game once on the golf course. I call this the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Syndrome. The elixir that turned Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde is the adrenaline produced by the golfer’s endocrine system in tense situations. It switches the golfer’s performance into the subconscious, or instinctive, mode once on the golf course. The only process to control the effects of adrenaline is to develop an instinctive, natural golf swing.
The Four Horsemen, the mental horsepower, of The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP help the golfer train, prepare, and develop their golf game using their subconscious mind, which is 80 percent of the golf game. Like the LEARNING MIND states, our subconscious mind is what runs THE SHOW, on and off the golf course.
The only Question is HOW do we train and utilize the subconscious mind in our practice sessions? How can we be so natural with our practice sessions that we can perform what we practice on the course? We can’t just go and occupy an entire hole on the golf course for an hour to practice shots. But, we have to create this mental image of us playing a hole in our mind to develop an instinctive golf swing. In Section 7 of my book, I refer to this coaching technique as the 405- Training Drill.
Over the next five weeks, I will be describing HOW The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP allows the golfer to use a self-coaching scrimmage concept to improve one’s golf game. Once the golfer is on the course, they fall right into the role of their own golf coach.
The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP – Take Care of the Details and Results will Happen
Some of the keys of The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP were brought up during an interview Paul Finebaum had with Shaun Alexander at the 2018 SEC Championship Game on Friday. Shaun, who played Running Back for Alabama Crimson Tide under Coach Gene Stallings, was All-Pro in his first year with the Seattle Seahawks. He also holds several college and NFL records.
Shaun told Paul about what his father told him about succeeding in sports. Shaun explained what his father told him, To excel in sports, you must identify and be proficient at smalls things in that sport. Shaun’s father was saying in order to excel in a sport, you must practice the small things over-and-over, not until you can do them right, but until you can’t do them wrong.
The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP is doing the small things, not until you can do them right, but until you can’t do them wrong. If a golfer trains where they can perform the small things correctly, they can train and develop their instinctive golf swing in their subconscious mind.
The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP looks at specific techniques and elements that most of us have already developed before age eight (8), and these are the fine motor skills. The golfer just needs to recognize what these APPs are to develop their techniques, elements, and mechanics in their golf game.
The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP compares the baseball swing in the batter’s box to the golfer’s swing on the tee box. They are more similar then they are different, so refer to the time-lapse photo below. This TEAM coaching APP is referred to as Apperception. Apperception is where finely-developed skills in one sport can be used to develop skills in another sport. We just need to convince our subconscious mind to use these skills from our baseball swing, hockey shots, or even basketball free throws.
The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP is Based on the Outliers Technique.
Malcolm Gladwell, in his book Outlier, stated that it takes 10,000 man-hours for a person to become an expert at a task. But, let’s say that the golfer already has 75 percent of these basic skills developed already. This means that the hours the golfer spends developing new skills for their golf game could instead be spent perfecting existing skills.
This is what the next four articles on The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP will cover over the next few weeks. These can be applied during the regular season or during the off-season, if you live north of the Florida-Georgia Line.
My first article will include an interesting interview that I had with a Vietnam War POW. Colonel George Robert Hall used golf to survive his seven-and-a-half years of being held at the infamous Hanoi Hilton, in North Vietnam.
If surviving Hanoi Hilton wasn’t incredible enough, six weeks after his release from the Hanoi Hilton, Colonel Hall was asked to play in the Greater New Orleans POW Pro-Am. He shot his handicap of four (4) that he established before his deployment to Vietnam. Not many professional golfers can even accomplish this type of achievement under normal conditions, much less as a POW for seven-and-a-half-years.
The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP will cover the ESPY Golf Swing Technique from both the mechanical and technical standpoints. It will cover the SYNC/PRESET wrist action in the golf swing that Nick Faldo and David Duval discussed and demonstrated in their videos. I have attached my YouTube video of the 12-foot chip shot. This is the most difficult golf shot to make under practice or playing conditions. This is why the chip shot is critical to the golfer’s practice.
The chip shot has exactly the same SYNC/PRESET elements as the regular golf shot, but it’s based more on finesse that requires the subconscious mind. The chip/pitch golf shot is a great way to warm up the body and mind before a practice session or a round of golf.
Anywhere you practice your putting, you can perform the basic 12-foot Chip/Pitch shot with a backstop. The Techniques, Elements, Apperception and Mechanics that are used in my this 12-foot pitch shot are the very same ones that are used in The GOLF TEAM Coaching APP.

Health and Fitness Program Golf Exercise for Power
This book is based on a self-coaching forum (ASPEN Pyramid). The ASPEN Self-Coaching Technique provides the beginner and advanced single-digit handicap golfer with a safe, ergonomic classic golf swing mechanics. The ASPEN forum for coaching golf provides basic skills for more power and control in the golf swing sequence without debilitating injuries that are common with some modern-day golf swings. As part of The ESPY Golf Swing Coach forum is a workout program that includes golf exercises with medicine ball designed especially for golfers.
I have also included a FREE SR925 Diet program that anyone can access, where I lost over 40 pounds and 7.5-inches in my waist within nine-months. I went from 37.5 inches in November of 2014 down to 30.0 inches in July of 2015 with the effective SR925 Diet Program that I developed, see detailed below. REMEMBER an easy RULE-OF-THUMB to determine if you have a healthy BMI, you can take half your height; and your waistline should fall below this figure.
Please take advantage of my SR925 Diet Program, where I lost 6 inches in my waist in 3- months (FREE of CHARGE) with the CASPER Fitness Program, detailed in Section 20 of my book, great golf swing workout:
SR925 Diet Program lost 7-inches where I went from a 37.5 inches to 30.25 inch waistline within 9 months, and more importantly, kept the weight off and my waistline after 4 years. Not too many diet programs can provide results like this.
CASPER Fitness Program consist of golf exercises with medicine ball to develop a great golf swing workout for DISTANCE and CONTROL.
One component in my CASPER Fitness Program that I follow is using a Medicine Ball golf swing workout to perform what I call Stocking the Shelves, illustrated below in the figure:
A part of the CASPER Fitness Program are golf exercises with medicine ball – that includes Stocking the Selves and medicine ball exercises Burpees. For endurance and a full body workout, I also include a boxing glove-punching bag exercise.

Operation DOG TAG
Sports, such as golf, along with fitness and an exercise regimen that includes yoga, has been proven to be a great Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for trauma victims. Veterans and those who have experienced a traumatic situation where the mind has been traumatized and disrupted can use golf and yoga to help re-establish connection and pathways in the brain. Golf also provides an excellent opportunity for trauma victims to reconnect in a social setting to develop a dialogue without the pressures of clinical visits.

Time-lapse photography that I reviewed during my Kinesiology Xerox Box Golf Research Project compared the golf swing vs. baseball swing and how similar the Sync/Preset wrist action in the golf swing was to the baseball swing sequence.
Here’s the QUESTION: How many times standing in the batter’s box did you think about your golf swing mechanics, techniques, or elements. Your were only focused on the pitch. Why not use the same Outlier technique in golf.
Sir Nick Faldo demonstration of the Preset Golf Swing Technique
One of Sir Nick Faldo’s first golf swing fundamentals that he learned as demonstrated in this YouTube video entitled The Preset golf swing technique. Nick Faldo discussed the WHAT, but didn’t explained the HOW in his YouTube video.
The Sync/Preset Elements in The ESPY Golf Swing Coach explains how to setup the classic golf swing maneuver to place the wrists into the key Lock Position. This was the same golf swing technique used by David Duval during an interview with Charlie Rymer on Golf Channel. These two Videos are probably two of the best Videos to discuss the wrist action in the golf swing.

A Recommendation for your Golf Game:
I would like to recommend an interesting radio program that I regularly listen to originating from my home state Arkansas on my I-Heart Radio app on KARN 102.9 FM station, out of Little Rock. They air a golf show called Arkansas Fairways and Greens, at 7:00 AM CT each Saturday morning, hosted by Bob Steel, and co-hosted by Jay Fox and Charles Crowson. Bob occasionally as has his guess Alex Myers with Golf Digest and Ron Sirak with Golf Channel. I was interviewed on his show about my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach. This show is worth tuning into for golf news and information.
Jay Fox is an Administrator with Arkansas State Golf Association that discuss amateur golf and rules of the game.
Once you learn WHY, you don’t forget HOW!
