Paul Finebaum interview with Jon Wertheim– on Wednesday (22Mar2023) on the disappearance of the local Sportscaster at Television Stations

One point that Mr. Paul Finebaum brought up with Mr. Jon Wertheim in this interview about the impact of 24/7 sports on ESPN and on the SEC Networks and its effects on local sportscasters. A point that Paul made during the interview was why hadn’t this impact on sportscasters been experienced on Meteorologists, as well. Especially we have Weather Channel and their broadcast network. I will give you what happened only one- hour’s flight northwest from our hangar from Madison, Mississippi, to Rolling Fork and Silver City on the evening of Friday, 24Mar2023.

I have worked with a transmission line utility as a grid engineer for 33- years and worked hurricanes, tornadoes, and ice storms, and I have never seen this type of destruction, even compared to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita of 2005.

This was taken in June of 2015, when I retired, I’m the one in the middle on a double Channel Steel X-arm testing out a new horizontal lifeline fall protection device that I help developed. I was the Chairman of the Fall Protection Safety Committee.

The Role Meteorologist Played in Saving Lives in Rolling Fork & Silver City

If local weather warnings had not been issued days before this destructive tornado hit on Friday evening, these two towns in the Delta of Mississippi, the death count of 21, as awful as that was, could have been a lot higher. The small town of Rolling Fork (with ~2,000 population) took a direct hit from this EF-4 Tornado that was a mile wide at its base, with winds speed in excess of 175 MPH of circulation. This tornado stayed on the ground for over 60 miles as it approached Silver City from the southwest, crossing U.S. Hwy 49W, and this system headed on that same northeast track to the Northwest corner of Alabama.

This type of devastation is WHY Meteorologists haven’t experienced the same fate that sportscasters have with sportscasters’ 2- minutes of broadcasting twice a night. I would even include news broadcasts in this same set of circumstances. The viewership of the newscast has dwindled from what it was in the 60’s to now. The public has learned not to rely on one source for their information, given the track record of our media that used to be the Gold Standard of Journalism.

I want to acknowledge two sportscasters that jumped into action to deliver supplies to these two towns. Blake Levine with WJTV-12 and in the case of Bradley Davis, sportscaster with WAPT 16, reporting from the scene. His reporting has brought attention to the devastation and the workers coming into the area from all over, even from New York, to help with recovery efforts.

Three (3) Cases of Dwindling Viewers and Readers

If you want to see a real impact of dwindling circulation of viewers and readers of these media outlets, just look at newsprint industry and nightly news. A great case in point to the propaganda by our media was in two cases in the Duke Lacrosse Case and in the University of Virginia Case that was totally fabricated and proliferated by the media to damage the reputation of these students for the media’s own gain.

We have found out that what these media outlets reported and continued to report weeks and months later was totally in error and damaged these students and other people since. It seems like our journalists are being trained to be propaganda hitmen and women, instead of doing some honest and actually some investigating reporting on their own. I would say what Jon Wertheim discovered in the sportscasting media is occurring in news outlets as well.

Gas Prices was another Issue of Bias Reporting by National and Local Media

During the months following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the National Media was reporting that the hike in gas prices were due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February of 2022. I expected this from the national media, but not from our local NBC affiliate here in Jackson, Mississippi. I follow energy prices closely since I work in the energy sector my entire career, I actual log gas prices and tracked them weekly. I knew from my data both the national and local news broadcast was totally wrong on the cause of the price increases.

The biggest price hike in gas prices was when Biden’s Administration cut domestic production and suspended the Key Stone project in February of 2021. Look at my chart, below, of the price hike that took place leading up to April of 2021 and continue to rise up to December of 2021, and NOT the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Today we have gas prices of $3.05 in Mississippi that is still 64.9% higher than they were in December of 2020. In how gas prices GO, so does our economy. EV’s don’t deliver products to stores, those are diesel rigs and trains, diesel prices are even higher so are consumer prices of goods:

I question everything that I hear reported on network and cable news, even on the local news level. They have displayed bias and what is more shocking is that they don’t even attempt to verify what they are reporting by doing their due diligence by doing their investigative reporting on their leads and news that they are reporting. This goes to their deterioration of their reputation and their integrity.

We need to Expand Sports, not Limited to 2- Minutes or Less

I, for one, think we need to expand sports broadcasts from just 2-minutes to 7-minutes or longer to include the Sports of Health & Fitness that includes personal interest stories. Report how people overcame obstacles in their life through sports and fitness to compete at the highest level. Staying active, especially as we age, is essential for our health and fitness to avoid age-related problems.

With obesity at 42- percent of the American population, we need more emphasis on stories done on the Sport of Health & Fitness that has a direct impact on our lifestyle. I prefer to hear that information that can directly impact our lives positively than what newscast personnel are putting out that is biased.

Just to show the positive impact of The Sport of Health and Fitness on us, below I’m 65 years old and enjoy the health and fitness that I had at age 30 by my diet and fitness, below:

This was taken in my home gym in July of 2022, when I just turned 65 working out on my boxing bag. This side view exposes my abdominal area, especially at age 65. My home gym is in the attic space over my photography studio. My gym isn’t heated or air conditioned, so temperatures in the summer months can reach 118 degrees Fahrenheit that I use for my conditioning.
