FITNESS FRIDAY

QATSPY GOLFER’S PAGE

By: Charles W. Boatright

I typically walk during my rounds of golf. I do this as an aerobic exercise as a part of my aggregate part of my CASPER Workout Program. I use an app on my I-phone to track the distance or step count that I walk to apply toward my 10,000 steps per day goal. Ten-thousand steps per day are a part of my fitness program which is an important part of my exercise goal.

Walking 10,000 steps per day is an exercise component that I strive toward. This equates to walking five-miles per day based on 2,000 steps per mile. I usually walk 9.3 to 10.1 miles over 18-holes.

A great opportunity to express your appreciation for our Veterans, especially during the month of November while getting your exercise, is to extend an invitation to a Veteran, or Veterans, for a round of golf. If the Veteran is a beginner, use a two-man or four-man scramble format. Your round of golf will be the most pleasurable experience. You can start what I call a VOGE Program at your golf course or club to not only expand the game of golf, but acknowledge our Veterans’ contribution to our country. VOGE stands for Veterans Oasis Golfers’ Exchange

The VOGE provide Veterans the ability to partake in a competitive sport and receive some relief from a battle in which some are still engaged in after their battle. During the month of November, ask a Veteran or Veterans to join your golf foursome. Then after your round of golf, and sit down in the clubhouse for the nineteenth-hole exchange.

The friendship you form with a person who placed a tremendous importance on loyalty will enhance your life and their health, while providing a person to tell his/her story. You don’t have to have the answers, just an open ear to just listen. Take time to honor a Veteran and expand this great game we call golf.

Fitness is more than physical component, but both mental and social fitness. We are our brother/sister keeper please extend a hand to our Veterans you will appreciate what made our country great.

In Section 11 of my book, The ESPY Golf Swing Coach, I include a section on honoring our Veterans:

11.0 The ESPY Golf Swing Coach for Beginners

11.1   The best method for a beginner to start playing golf is to play two-man or four-man scramble for the first five or six rounds. There will be less pressure on the beginner during the first rounds of golf, without hindering others. The scramble technique translates into better results, with increased confidence. Scramble golf is like training wheels for the golfer. During these first rounds, the beginner’s objective is to make good contact and hit the fairway, without concern for distance or score. Distance and scoring will come later, as the golfer becomes proficient with the ESPY Golf Swing. In scramble golf, players make their own tee shots from the tee box, and then all other shots, including putts, are played from the best ball position.

11.2   Return the favor to others, once you get proficient implementing the ESPY Golf Swing. Take an opportunity to build their game, especially young players and veterans. Take someone who is struggling with their golf game, or life, and introduce them to the fundamentals of the ESPY Golf elements. This is a great platform to build confidence, faith, and consistency in their golf game and their life. The golf environment provides a therapeutic component, as well as a chance to enjoy God’s creation and develop friendships with others.

11.3   Playing golf offers a great way to honor a father, a mother, spouse, family member, or military veteran. Schedule a round of golf on the Saturday before Mother’s or Father’s Day. Or set up a round with a member of the armed forces, to honor their service. Playing golf with a service member is a great way to express appreciation for a veteran’s service. You will be the beneficiary, by extending a hand of friendship to these people. They need our prayers, friendship, respect, honor, and support.

11.4   the baseball-type structure is a great method to set the Synch and Protract elements. This uses the left and the right wristbands to rotate the Delta, to lock the right elbow. The ESPY Golf elements synchronize and lock the right elbow gear with the shoulder gear. The Synch and Protract elements place the left thumb into the SLOT, or the ~3:00 lock position, to start the Yaw element. Another benefit of The ESPY Golf Swing Coach is the ability to quiet one’s nerves on the first tee box. The first tee box compares to public speaking, but with applied fundamentals and technique, one can gain confidence. The ESPY Golf Swing is a great way to turn a weakness into a strength

A Recommendation for your Golf Game:

I would like to recommend a wonderful radio program that I regularly listen to on my I-Heart Radio app on KARN 102.9 FM, out of Little Rock, AR. They air a golf show called “Arkansas Fairways and Greens,” at 7:00am CST on Saturday mornings. It is hosted by Bob Steel and Jay Fox. Bob occasionally has on his show a guest named Shawn Humphries, a Professional Golf Instructor from Dallas, TX. One thing that Mr. Humphries stresses is the mental part of golf, not focusing on the results but the process.
